Lane Keep Assist (LKA)

~2min read
Hyundai Ioniq. Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) System

The Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) system helps detect lane markings on the road using a camera on the windshield and helps the driver steer the vehicle to keep it within the lane.

When the system detects that the vehicle is drifting out of its lane, it warns the driver with a visual and audible warning and applies a small counter-steering torque to attempt to prevent the vehicle from leaving its lane.

WARNING

The Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) system does not replace safe driving practices and is only a convenience feature. It is the driver's responsibility to always stay aware of the surroundings and control the vehicle.

WARNING

Observe the following precautions when using the Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) system:

  • Do not turn the steering wheel abruptly while the system is steering the steering wheel.
  • The LKA system helps prevent unintentional lane departure by assisting the driver in steering the vehicle. However, the driver must not rely solely on the system; always pay attention to the steering wheel to stay in the lane.
  • LKA system operation may be cancelled or may not function properly depending on road and surrounding conditions. Always drive with caution.
  • Do not disassemble the LKA system camera, temporarily tint the window, or attach any kind of covering or accessories. If the camera is disassembled and reassembled, take your vehicle to an authorized HYUNDAI dealer to have the system checked for calibration.
  • When replacing the windshield, the LKA system camera, or related steering wheel parts, take your vehicle to an authorized HYUNDAI dealer to have the system checked for calibration.
  • The system detects lane markings and controls the steering wheel using the camera, so if the markings are difficult to detect, the system may not operate properly. Refer to "System Limitations".
  • Do not remove or damage the related parts of the LKA system.
  • You may not hear the LKA system warning sound due to excessive noise.
  • Do not place reflective items such as mirrors, white paper, etc. on the instrument panel. The system may malfunction if sunlight is reflected.
  • Always keep your hands on the steering wheel when the LKA system is activated. If you continue driving without holding the steering wheel after the warning message "Hold Steering Wheel" appears, the system will turn off automatically. After this, if you drive with your hands on the steering wheel, the control will be reactivated.
  • Steering control is not provided continuously, so if the vehicle speed is high when leaving the lane, the vehicle may not be controlled by the system. The driver must always observe the speed limit when using the system.
  • If you attach items to the steering wheel, the system may not assist steering or the "Hands Off" warning may malfunction.
  • While other warning sounds, such as the unbelted seat belt warning sound, operate and may block the LKA warning system, the LKA system warning sounds may not be heard.
