Braking System
Power Brakes
Your vehicle is equipped with a brake booster, which operates automatically during normal brake application.
If the vehicle is not in the Ready (
) mode or the vehicle turns off while driving, the brake booster will not operate. You can still stop the vehicle by applying more force to the brake pedal than normal. However, the braking distance will be longer than with power assistance.
When the vehicle is not in the Ready (
) mode, the reserve braking power is partially depleted each time the brake pedal is applied. Do not depress the brake pedal if the booster has been interrupted.
Apply the brake pedal only when necessary to maintain control on slippery road surfaces.
WARNING
Observe the following precautions:
- Do not drive with your foot resting on the brake pedal. This will cause abnormally high brake temperatures, excessive wear of the brake pads and linings, and increased braking distances.
- When descending a long or steep grade, move the shift lever to manual shift mode and manually downshift to a lower gear to control vehicle speed without excessive use of the brake pedal. Continuous brake application will overheat the brakes and may result in a temporary loss of braking performance.
- Wet brakes may reduce the vehicle's ability to decelerate safely and may cause the vehicle to pull to one side during braking. Lightly apply the brakes to check whether they have been affected. Always check your brakes this way after driving through deep water. To dry the brakes, lightly apply the brake pedal to warm them while maintaining a safe forward speed until braking performance returns to normal. Avoid driving at high speeds until the brakes function properly.
NOTICE
Do not depress the brake pedal continuously unless the
" indicator is on. The battery may discharge.
- Some noise and vibration may occur when braking. This is normal.
- Some noise from the electric brake pump and vibration may occur temporarily in the following cases. This is normal operation.
- When the pedal is depressed very quickly
- When the pedal is depressed several times at short intervals
- When the ABS is activated during braking
