Removal

  1. If the compressor is operating at its limit, run the engine at idle speed and let the air conditioner operate for several minutes, then turn off the engine.
  2. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  3. Recover the refrigerant using a recovery/recharging station.
  4. Remove the engine room cover. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Room Cover")
  5. Loosen the drive belt. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Drive Belt")
  6. Remove the bolts, then disconnect the suction line (A) and the discharge line (B) from the compressor.

    Tightening Torque: 21.6–32 N·m

  7. Disconnect the compressor switch connector (A).
  8. Remove the compressor (A) by loosening the mounting bolts.

    Tightening torque: 20.0 – 33 N·m

Installation

  1. Make sure the compressor mounting bolt (A) is the correct length. Tighten the mounting bolts to the specified tightening torque in the specified order.

    Tightening torque: 20.0 – 33 N·m

  2. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Inspection

  1. Inspect the limiter and hub for discoloration, peeling, or other damage. If damaged, replace the assembly.
  2. Check the pulley bearing play (A) and rotate the pulley by hand. Replace the pulley if it is noisy or has excessive play or drag.

Compressor with External Control Valve Inspection (GDS)

Compressor Type: Fixed displacement compressor, externally controlled valve, internally controlled valve. For fixed displacement and internally controlled valve types, compressor operation can be checked by the clutch noise. However, for the externally controlled valve, it cannot be checked this way because it has no clutch. Therefore, the ECV should be checked using GDS as shown below.
  1. Connect GDS to the vehicle and select "A/C Compressor Test (ECV Type)". [ECV1]
  2. Prepare the vehicle according to the GDS instructions on the monitor. (Turn off only the A/C switch.) [ECV2]
    [ECV3]
  3. Before inspecting the ECV compressor, check whether any other DTCs are present. If so, resolve those first. If not, press the "OK" button to continue. [ECV4]
  4. Start the inspection [ECV5]
    [ECV6]
  5. Check the test result and press "Check Parts" if it displays "Check". Follow the instructions and recheck the ECV from the first step. [ECV7]
    [ECV8]

Disassembly

  1. Remove the engine room cover. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Room Cover")
  2. Remove the front wheel guard. (Refer to Body - "Front Wheel Guard")
  3. Loosen the drive belt. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Drive Belt")
  4. Remove the clutch bolt (A) while holding the pulley clutch with the bolt holder (09977-3R000).

    Tightening torque: 10.0–15 N·m

  5. Loosen the limiter bolts, then remove the limiter and hub assembly (A).
  6. Remove the pulley (B) after removing the snap ring (A) with snap ring pliers.
  7. Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly.
