Repair Procedures
Removal and Installation
|
- Remove the engine cover. (Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - Engine Cover)
- Remove the roller rod bracket. (Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - "Engine Mount")
- Remove the suspension member. (Refer to Suspension System - "Suspension Member")
- Remove the front muffler (A).
Torque: 39.2 – 59 N·m

- Install in the reverse order of removal.

- When installing, replace the gaskets with new ones.
- Remove the catalytic converter and center muffler assembly (A).
Torque: 39.2 – 59 N·m

- Install in the reverse order of removal.

- When installing, replace the gaskets with new ones.
- Remove the rear muffler (A).
Torque: 39.2 – 59 N·m

- Install in the reverse order of removal.

- When installing, replace the gaskets with new ones.
- Check the clamp area of the catalytic converter and center muffler assembly for damage or deformation. If the muffler is too corroded to clamp, replace the catalytic converter and center muffler assembly.

- Record the clearance (A, B) between the exhaust pipe and the rear bumper.

- Remove the catalytic converter and center muffler assembly (A).

- Cut the catalytic converter and center muffler assembly as described below.
- Cut the front muffler groove.

- Cut the rear muffler groove of the replacement muffler.

- To prevent leakage, remove all rust on the clamping part or burrs on the cutting part.
- Cut the pipe vertically.

- Use a pipe cutter to cut the pipe vertically.

- If a pipe cutter is not available, use a hacksaw as described in the procedure below.
- Mark the cutting position to cut the pipe vertically.

- Cut the pipe along the marked line using a hacksaw.

- Cut the front muffler groove.
- Install the center muffler.
- Install the catalytic converter (A) and center muffler (B) for replacement, partially tightening the nuts.

- Place the clamp (A) between the cut section of each pipe and partially tighten the clamp.

- Tighten the catalytic converter and center muffler assembly to the specified torque.
Torque: 39.2 – 59 N·m
- Compare the clearance between the exhaust pipe (or tail pipe) and the rear bumper with the measurements taken before removing the center muffler assembly.

- If the exhaust pipe is installed in a position different from the original, the bumper may be damaged by pipe heat or interference between the exhaust pipe and the rear bumper.
- Do not tighten the clamp all at once. Tighten the clamp nuts to the specified torque, alternating evenly.
Torque: 17.6 – 24 N·m

- Do not reuse clamps that have been fully tightened. Reusing fully tightened clamps may cause leakage.
- Install the catalytic converter (A) and center muffler (B) for replacement, partially tightening the nuts.
