Safe Exit Assist (SEA)

~2min read
Hyundai Palisade. Safe Exit Assist (SEA) System

1. The Safe Exit Assist (SEA) system is designed to help prevent passengers from opening the door by warning passengers when an approaching vehicle from the rear is detected after the vehicle has stopped.

2. When an approaching vehicle from the rear is detected after the vehicle has stopped, the rear door will not open even when the driver attempts to unlock the rear door using the Electronic Child Safety Lock switch. The warning message "Check surroundings, then try again" will appear on the cluster and a warning sound will be heard.

However, if you press the switch within 10 seconds after the warning message appears (the indicator on the switch will turn off), the system determines that the driver intends to unlock the door, confirms the rear status, and releases the door regardless of the rear condition.

3. When an approaching vehicle from the rear is detected while the door is open, the warning message "Watch for Traffic" will appear on the cluster and a warning sound will be heard.

  • Functions 2 and 3 above are activated when you select "Driver Assistance → Blind-Spot Safety → Safe Exit Assist (SEA)" in the User Settings mode on the LCD cluster.
  • The Electronic Child Safety Lock system will operate approximately 10 minutes after the ignition key is removed or turned to the LOCK (or OFF) position. After approximately 10 minutes, the indicator on the switch turns off and you cannot deactivate the Electronic Child Safety Lock system. To deactivate the Electronic Child Safety Lock system, press the Electronic Child Safety Lock switch again with the ignition switch in the ON position or after starting the engine.
  • When power is restored after removing the battery or discharging the battery while the child safety lock is in the lock position, press the child safety lock switch once again to match the indicator status on the child safety lock switch with the actual status of the Electronic Child Safety Lock system.
  • If the airbag is deployed while the child safety lock switch is on (the indicator on the switch is illuminated), it turns off automatically and the rear door is unlocked.

CAUTION

  • The Safe Exit Assist (SEA) system may not operate normally if there is a vehicle or obstacle behind your vehicle.
  • The Safe Exit Assist (SEA) system may not operate normally when a vehicle is rapidly approaching through two lanes from your vehicle, or when a vehicle is approaching at high speed from behind in the lane next to your vehicle.
  • The Safe Exit Assist (SEA) system may be activated later than usual or may not operate normally if a vehicle is rapidly approaching from behind your vehicle.
  • The Safe Exit Assist (SEA) system will not operate if there is a malfunction in the Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW) system as follows:
    - When the BCW warning message appears / when the BCW sensor or the area around the sensor is contaminated or covered
    - When the BCW does not warn or warns incorrectly

WARNING

  • The system does not detect every obstacle approaching the vehicle when exiting.
  • The driver and passengers are responsible for any obstacles when exiting the vehicle. Always check your surroundings before getting out of the vehicle.
