If the shift lever cannot be moved from P (Park) to R (Reverse) while depressing the brake pedal, continue depressing the brake pedal and proceed as follows:

1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK/OFF position.

2. Apply the parking brake.

3. Carefully remove the cover (1) covering the shift lock release access hole.

4. Insert a tool (such as a flat-blade screwdriver) into the access hole and press on the tool.

5. Push and shift while pressing the screwdriver.

6. Remove the tool from the shift lever release hole, then install the cover.

7. Depress the brake pedal, then restart the engine.

If you need to use the shift lock release system, we recommend having the system inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
