To apply the EPB (Electronic Parking Brake):
1. Depress and hold the brake pedal.
2. Pull up the EPB switch.
Make sure the parking brake warning light illuminates.
The EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) may be applied automatically when:
- Requested by other systems
- The driver turns off the engine while Auto Hold is operating.
Emergency Braking
If there is a problem with the brake pedal while driving, emergency braking can be applied by pulling up and holding the EPB switch. Braking is possible only while you hold the EPB switch. However, the braking distance will be longer than normal.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH, do not use the EPB while the vehicle is moving, except in an emergency. This could damage the brake system and lead to an accident.
Information
During emergency braking, the parking brake warning light will illuminate to indicate that the system is operating.
NOTICE
If you constantly notice a noise or burning smell when the EPB is used for emergency braking, have the system inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

2. Press the EPB switch while depressing the brake pedal.
Make sure the parking brake warning light turns off.
To release the EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) automatically:
• Shift to P (Park)
With the engine running, depress the brake pedal and shift from P (Park) to R (Reverse) or D (Drive).
• Shift from N (Neutral)
With the engine running, depress the brake pedal and shift from N (Neutral) to R (Reverse) or D (Drive).
• Satisfy the following conditions
1. Make sure the doors, hood and tailgate are closed.
2. With the engine running, depress the brake pedal and shift from P (Park) to R (Reverse), D (Drive) or manual shift mode.
3. Depress the accelerator pedal. Make sure the parking brake warning light turns off.
Information
- For your safety, you can apply the EPB even when the Engine Start/Stop button is in the OFF position (only if battery power is available), but you cannot release it.
- For safety, depress the brake pedal and release the parking brake manually using the EPB switch when driving downhill or when reversing the vehicle.
NOTICE
- If the parking brake warning light remains on even though the EPB has been released, have the system inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
- Do not drive the vehicle with the EPB applied. This may cause excessive brake pad and brake disc wear.
Warning Messages

To release the EPB, fasten your seat belt and close the door, hood and tailgate.
- If you attempt to drive with the EPB applied, a warning chime will sound and a message will appear.
- If the driver's seat belt is not fastened and the hood or tailgate is open, a warning chime will sound and a message will appear.
- If there is a problem with the vehicle, a warning chime may sound and a message may appear.
In an emergency, depress the brake pedal and release the EPB by pressing the EPB switch.
WARNING
- Whenever leaving the vehicle or parking, always come to a complete stop and continue to depress the brake pedal. Shift to P (Park), pull up the EPB switch and press the Engine Start/Stop button to the OFF position. Take the key with you when leaving the vehicle. Vehicles not fully secured in P (Park) with the parking brake applied are at risk of unintended movement and may cause injury to yourself or others.
- NEVER allow anyone unfamiliar with the vehicle to touch the EPB switch. If the EPB is released unintentionally, serious injury may occur.
- Release the EPB only when you are seated in the vehicle with your foot firmly on the brake pedal.
NOTICE
- Do not depress the accelerator pedal while the parking brake is applied. If you depress the accelerator pedal while the EPB is applied, a warning chime will sound and a message will appear. Damage to the parking brake may occur.
- Driving with the parking brake applied may overheat the brake system and cause premature wear or damage to brake components. Make sure the EPB is released and the parking brake warning light turns off before driving.
Information
- A clicking sound may be heard when the EPB is applied or released. This is normal and indicates that the EPB is operating properly.
- When leaving the keys with a parking attendant or valet, be sure to tell them how to operate the EPB.

EPB malfunction
The Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) warning light illuminates when the Engine Start/Stop button is set to ON and turns off after approximately 3 seconds if the system is operating normally.
If the EPB warning light stays on, illuminates while driving, or does not illuminate when the Engine Start/Stop button is set to ON, the EPB may be malfunctioning.
In this case, have the system inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
The EPB warning light may illuminate when the ESC indicator light comes on, indicating that ESC is not operating properly. This does not indicate a malfunction of the EPB.
NOTICE
- If the EPB malfunction indicator remains on, have the system inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
- If the parking brake warning light does not illuminate or even flash although the EPB switch has been pulled up, the EPB may not be applied.
- If the parking brake warning light flashes while the EPB warning light is on, press the switch, then pull it up. Repeat this once more. If the EPB warning does not turn off, have the system checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Check the parking brake warning light by setting the Engine Start/Stop button to ON.
This indicator illuminates when the parking brake is applied with the ignition switch in the START or ON position. Before driving, make sure the parking brake is released and the parking brake warning light is off.
If the parking brake warning light remains on after the parking brake is released with the engine running, there may be a malfunction in the brake system. Immediate attention is required.
If possible, stop driving the vehicle immediately. If this is not possible, drive with extreme caution and continue only until you can reach a safe place to stop.
Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) Malfunction
If the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) does not release normally, DO NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE. Have your vehicle inspected at an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
It is recommended that the vehicle be towed by a flatbed tow truck if an EPB malfunction occurs.
