Using ABS
For optimal ABS performance in an emergency, do not attempt to modulate the brake pressure or pump the brake pedal. Press the brake pedal fully.
When braking under conditions that may cause the wheels to lock, you may hear a brake noise or feel a vibration in the brake pedal. This behavior is completely normal and indicates that the ABS is operating.
ABS does not reduce the time or distance required to stop the vehicle.
Always maintain a safe distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead.
ABS does not prevent skidding caused by abrupt changes of direction, such as entering a curve too fast or changing lanes suddenly. Always drive at a speed appropriate for road and weather conditions.
ABS cannot prevent loss of vehicle stability. Always exercise caution during emergency braking. If the steering wheel is turned sharply or abruptly, the vehicle may move in an unintended direction or leave the road.
On loose or uneven surfaces, ABS may increase braking distance compared to a conventional brake system.
ABS warning light (
) remains illuminated for a few seconds when the engine START/STOP button is set to ON. During these few seconds, the ABS performs a self-check and the indicator goes off if everything is normal. If the indicator remains illuminated, this may indicate a malfunction of the ABS. We recommend having it inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer as soon as possible.
WARNING
If the ABS warning light (
) remains illuminated, this may indicate a malfunction of the ABS. In this case, auxiliary braking will still function normally. To reduce the risk of serious injury or death, we recommend that you contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer as soon as possible.
NOTICE
When traction is poor, for example on icy roads, and you apply the brakes continuously, the ABS remains active and the corresponding indicator (
) may illuminate. Stop the vehicle in a safe place as soon as possible and turn off the engine.
Restart the engine. If the ABS warning light goes off, the ABS is operating normally. Otherwise, it may be malfunctioning. We recommend that you contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer as soon as possible.
Information
When starting the vehicle using jumper cables because the battery is discharged, the ABS warning light (
) may illuminate. This behavior is caused by low battery voltage and does not indicate a malfunction of the ABS. Charge the battery before driving.
