Vehicle Safety System

Driver and Passenger Front Airbags

~5min read

The vehicle is equipped with supplemental restraint systems (airbags) and shoulder/lap seat belts for both the driver and front passenger seats. The presence of the airbag is indicated by the embossed text SRS AIRBAG or AIRBAG on the airbag cover in the steering wheel and on the instrument panel trim above the glove box on the passenger side.

The SRS airbag system includes airbags installed under the cover in the center of the steering wheel and under the instrument panel trim above the glove box on the passenger side.

The SRS airbag system is designed to provide protection for the driver and/or front seat passenger in a severe frontal collision, supplementing the seat belt system.

WARNING

Always use seat belts and child restraints on every trip, without exception! Airbags deploy with considerable force in an instant.

Seat belts help keep occupants in the proper position for the airbag to provide maximum protection. Even with airbags, occupants may suffer serious injury during deployment if they are not wearing seat belts at all or are not wearing them properly. Always observe the precautions regarding seat belts, airbags, and occupant safety contained in this manual.

To reduce the risk of serious or fatal injury and to obtain the maximum protective effect from the passive safety system:

• Never seat a child in the front seat or install a child safety seat there. >? • ALWAYS SECURE CHILDREN in the rear seat with seat belts. This is the safest place for children of any age while the vehicle is in motion.
• Front and side airbags may injure occupants who are seated improperly in the front seats.

• Move the driver's seat as far back from the front airbag as possible while still maintaining control of the vehicle.
• The driver and passengers should never sit or lean unnecessarily close to the airbags. If the driver or passengers sit improperly, they may receive serious injury from deploying airbags.
• Never lean against the door or center console; always sit upright.

• Do not place any objects over or near the airbags located in the steering wheel hub or on the instrument panel. In a collision severe enough to deploy the airbags, any such object may cause injury.
• Do not touch the wiring or other components of the SRS airbag system, and do not disconnect their connectors. Such actions may cause injury due to accidental airbag deployment or may disable the system.

• If the SRS airbag warning lamp remains illuminated while driving, have the system inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer as soon as possible.
• Airbags are single-use devices. Contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer immediately after airbag deployment.
• The SRS airbag system is designed to deploy only when the frontal impact is severe enough and its direction forms an angle of no more than 30° with the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. The system is also single-use.

Always wear the seat belts.

• The front airbags are not designed to deploy in a side collision, rear impact, or vehicle rollover.

In addition, this system does not operate in a frontal collision with a severity below the system deployment threshold.
• Never install a child seat in the front seat. A child may suffer serious injury or death from airbag deployment in the event of a traffic accident.

• Children under 12 years of age must always ride in the rear seat, and their bodies must be securely restrained. Never allow children to ride in the front passenger seat. If a child over 12 years of age must ride in the front seat, the child must be securely belted and the seat must be moved to the rearmost position.
• For maximum protection in all traffic accidents, all occupants of the vehicle, including the driver, must wear seat belts to minimize the risk of serious injury or death in the event of a traffic accident.

Do not sit too close to the airbag, and do not lean toward it while the vehicle is moving.

• Sitting improperly or leaning out of the correct position may result in serious injury or fatal injury in a collision.

All occupants must sit upright (with the seatback in the upright position), centered on the seat cushion, and wear their seat belts. Their feet must be placed comfortably with the soles on the floor until the vehicle is parked and the key is removed from the ignition switch.

• SRS airbags deploy very quickly to protect occupants in a collision. If an occupant is out of position because they are not wearing a seat belt, the airbag may strike them with force, causing serious injury or death.
