SRS Airbag System Care

The airbag system requires virtually no maintenance: there are no components that the vehicle owner can service. If the SRS warning lightdoes not illuminate when the ignition is turned on or remains on continuously, immediately contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer to have the vehicle inspected.

All work on the supplemental restraint system, such as removal and installation of components and repairs, as well as all work on the steering wheel, front passenger instrument panel, front seats and roof side rails, must be performed only by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Improper handling of the SRS airbag system may result in serious injury.

WARNING

• Modifications to SRS airbag system components or its electrical circuits, including attaching any stickers to airbag cover panels or modifying load-bearing body structures, may adversely affect the effectiveness of the airbag system and may cause possible injury.
• To clean airbag cover panels, use only a soft dry cloth or a cloth dampened with clean water. Solvents or cleaning agents may damage these panels, adversely affecting system performance when the airbags deploy.

• Do not place any objects over or near the airbags located in the steering wheel hub or instrument panel. The reason is that in a collision of sufficient severity to deploy the airbags, any such object may cause injury.
• After deployment, airbags must be replaced by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
• Do not touch the wiring or other SRS airbag system components, and do not disconnect their connectors.

Such actions may result in injury from accidental airbag deployment or from disabling the SRS system.

• Certain precautions must be observed when removing SRS airbag system components or when scrapping the vehicle. All of these precautions are known to an authorized HYUNDAI dealer, who can provide the necessary information.

Failure to observe these precautions and procedures may increase the risk of injury.
• If the vehicle has been submerged in water, its floor mats are wet, or there is water on the floor, do not start the engine. The vehicle in this condition must be taken to an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
