Blind-Spot Collision Warning Malfunction and Limitations

~5min read

If the Blind-Spot Collision Warning does not operate properly, the "Check Blind-Spot Safety System" warning message may appear andthe warning light may illuminate on the instrument cluster. Have the vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

If the side mirror indicator does not operate properly, the "Check Side Mirror Indicator" warning message may appear andthe warning light may illuminate on the instrument cluster. Have the vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

If the rear corner radar is blocked or covered, or if the rear bumper behind the rear corner radar or sensor is covered with foreign material such as snow, rain, or dirt, or when a trailer or towing device is installed, detection performance may decrease and the Blind-Spot Collision Warning may be temporarily limited or deactivated.

The Blind-Spot Safety System is deactivated. The "Radar Blocked" warning message may appear on the instrument cluster.

The system operates normally when such foreign material, trailer, or carrier is removed and the engine is restarted.

If the system does not operate normally after anything covering or blocking the sensors is removed, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

WARNING

  • The Blind-Spot Collision Warning may not operate properly even if there is no warning message or the warning light is not illuminated on the instrument cluster.
  • The Blind-Spot Collision Warning may not operate properly in open areas where no objects are detected (for example, empty parking lots), or when the sensors are blocked immediately after the engine is started.
  • Always turn off Blind-Spot Collision Warning when towing a trailer or using a towing device.

Blind-Spot Collision Warning Limitations

Warning

The Blind-Spot Collision Warning system may not operate normally, or the system may activate unexpectedly, if:

  • Inclement weather, such as heavy snow or heavy rain.
  • The rear corner radar or the area around the rear corner radar is covered with snow, water, or dirt.
  • The rear corner radar or the area around the rear corner radar is blocked by a vehicle, wall, or pole.
  • The temperature around the rear corner radar is very hot or cold.
  • You are driving on a highway or through a toll gate.
  • The road surface (or the ground near your vehicle) contains metal components (e.g., due to subway construction).
  • Stationary objects near your vehicle, such as sound barriers, guardrails, median dividers, entrance barriers, street lights, signs, tunnels, walls, etc.
  • You are driving on a narrow road where trees or grass are overgrown.
  • You are driving in a large open area with few vehicles or structures (e.g., desert, meadow, empty parking lot).
  • You are driving on a wet road.
  • Another vehicle is following very closely behind your vehicle or passing very close to your vehicle.
  • Another vehicle is moving so fast that it passes your vehicle in a short time.
  • Your vehicle is overtaking another vehicle.
  • Your vehicle is changing lanes.
  • Your vehicle accelerates suddenly at the same time as a vehicle next to you.
  • A vehicle in the adjacent lane is two lanes away from you, or a vehicle is moving two lanes over toward the next lane.
  • A vehicle towing a trailer or using a towing device is installed and blocks the rear corner radar.
  • The area near the rear corner radar is covered by objects such as a bumper sticker, bumper guard, bicycle rack, etc.
  • The bumper around the rear corner radar is damaged or modified, and the radar is not in its proper position.
  • Your vehicle height is lower or higher than normal due to heavy loads, abnormal tire pressure, etc.

The Blind-Spot Collision Warning system may not operate normally, or may operate unexpectedly, when the following objects are detected:

  • Motorcycle or bicycle
  • Vehicle such as a flatbed trailer
  • Large vehicle such as a bus or truck
  • Moving obstacle such as a pedestrian, animal, shopping cart, or baby stroller
  • Low-height vehicle such as a sports car

WARNING

  • Driving on Curves

The Blind-Spot Collision Warning system may not detect a vehicle in the adjacent lane when driving on curves, and may not activate the warning.

Always check road conditions and, if necessary, take appropriate measures to drive safely.

The Blind-Spot Collision Warning system may detect a vehicle in the same lane when driving on curves and activate the warning.

Always check road conditions and, if necessary, take appropriate measures to drive safely.

  • Driving where the road merges or divides

The Blind-Spot Collision Warning system may not detect a vehicle in the adjacent lane when the road merges or divides, and may not activate the warning.

Always check road conditions and, if necessary, take appropriate measures to drive safely.

  • Driving on Hills

The Blind-Spot Collision Warning system may not detect a vehicle in the adjacent lane, or may misidentify the ground or another object when driving on hills, and activate the warning.

Always check road conditions and, if necessary, take appropriate measures to drive safely.

  • Driving where lane heights differ

The Blind-Spot Collision Warning system may not operate properly when driving where lane heights differ. The system may not detect a vehicle on a road with different lane heights (underpass connection area, elevated separated intersections, etc.) and may not activate the warning.

Always check road conditions and, if necessary, take appropriate measures to drive safely.

WARNING

  • The Blind-Spot Collision Warning system may not operate normally if there is interference from strong electromagnetic waves.
  • The Blind-Spot Collision Warning system may not operate for 3 seconds immediately after the vehicle is started or when the rear corner radars are initializing.
