Curtain airbags are located along both sides of the roof side rails above the front and rear doors.
They are designed to protect the heads of front seat passengers and rear side seat passengers in certain side impacts.
The curtain airbags are designed to deploy only in certain side impacts, depending on the severity of the collision.
For vehicles equipped with the rollover sensor function, the side airbags and/or curtain airbags and pretensioners on both sides of the vehicle may deploy in the event of a rollover or a possible rollover being detected.
The curtain airbags are not designed to deploy in every side impact or rollover situation.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of serious injury or death from a curtain airbag deployment:
- All passengers must always wear their seat belts to help keep occupants in proper position.
- Install the child restraint system as far from the door as possible.
- Do not place any objects on the airbag cover. Also, do not attach any objects in the area of airbag deployment, such as the door, side window glass, front and rear pillars, and side roof rail.
- Do not hang any items other than clothing, especially hard or sharp objects, near airbag locations. In a collision, they may cause vehicle damage or personal injury.
- Do not allow passengers to lean their head or body against the door, place their hands on the door, extend their arms out of the window, or place objects between the door and the seat.
- Do not open or repair the side curtain airbag.
