Side Airbags

~1min read

The side airbags are designed to deploy during certain side impacts, depending on the severity of the crash.

The side airbags on both sides of the vehicle are designed to deploy when a rollover is detected by the rollover sensor.

The side airbags are not designed to deploy in every side impact or rollover situation.

WARNING

To reduce the risk of serious injury or death from a side airbag deployment:

  • Seat belts must always be worn to help occupants maintain the correct position.
  • Do not allow passengers to lean their head or body against the door, place their hands on the door, extend their arms out of the window, or place objects between the door and the seat.
  • Do not use seat covers that are not approved for use with side airbags. They may reduce or prevent the effectiveness of the system.
  • Do not hang any objects other than clothing. In a crash, they may cause injury or damage to the vehicle, especially when the airbag deploys.
  • Do not place any objects on the location of the airbag or between the airbag and yourself. Also do not attach objects around the airbag that may be hit by the inflating airbag, such as the door, side door glass, and front and rear pillars.
  • Do not place any objects between the door and the seat. They may become dangerous projectiles if the side airbag deploys.
  • Do not install any accessories on or near the side airbags.
  • Do not strike the doors when the ignition key is in the ON or START position, as the side airbags may deploy.
  • If the seat or seat cover is damaged, have the vehicle serviced by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
