Steering Angle Sensor Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The Steering Wheel Angle Sensor (SAS) is installed in the EPS (Electric Power Steering) and sends messages to the HECU via the CAN bus line. The SAS is used to detect the steering direction and speed of the steering wheel. The HECU uses signals from the SAS when performing ESP-related calculations. The EPS system components (steering wheel angle sensor, torque sensor, fail-safe relay, etc.) are located inside the steering column, and the EPS unit assembly and steering column with EPS unit assembly cannot be disassembled for inspection or replacement.
