Fault Diagnosis

  1. In principle, ESC and TCS control is prohibited when the ABS has failed.
  2. When an ESC or TCS failure occurs, only the failed system control is prohibited.
  3. However, when the solenoid valve relay must be turned off due to an ESC failure, refer to the ABS fail-safe.
  4. ABS fail-safe information is identical to the fail-safe for systems without ESC.
  5. It stores the code as long as backup lamp power is connected. (O)
  6. It stores the code as long as HCU power is on. (X)
  7. The initial check is performed immediately after the HECU is powered on.
  8. The valve relay check is performed immediately after IG2 is turned on.
  9. It performs the check at all times while IG2 power is on.
  10. Turn off the system, perform the following steps, and wait for the HECU power to turn off.
  11. Turn off the valve relay.
  12. Stop control during operation and do not take any action until normal condition is restored.
  13. The ESC indicator light illuminates for 3 seconds after the ignition is turned on.
  14. The ESC indicator light flashes when ESC is active.
  15. The ESC OFF indicator light illuminates when
    A. ESC OFF
    B. ESC Malfunction Detection
    C. 3 seconds after ignition ON
    D. Entering Diagnostic Mode
  16. Remove the reservoir cap and fill the reservoir with brake fluid.
If brake fluid gets on any painted surface, wash it off immediately. Do not depress the brake pedal when releasing pressure. Recommended fluid........ DOT3 or DOT4
  17. Connect a clear plastic tube to the bleeder valve of the wheel cylinder. Insert the other end of the tube into a clear plastic bottle half filled with brake fluid.
  18. Connect the GDS to the Data Link Connector (DLC) located under the instrument panel.
  19. Select and follow the instructions on the GDS screen.
    1. Select the vehicle model name.
    2. Select the Anti-lock Brake System.
    3. Select the HCU air bleeding mode.
  20. Depress the brake pedal several times, then loosen the bleeder screw until fluid flows out without bubbles. Then close the bleeder screw (A). [Front]
    [Rear]
  21. Repeat step 5 until there are no air bubbles in the fluid for each wheel.
  22. Tighten the bleeder screw. Bleeder screw tightening torque: 7.0 ~ 13 N·m
Malfunction Code Memory Check Malfunction Countermeasures on Failure Warning Lamp Remains On Brake System Bleeding This procedure must be performed to ensure proper air bleeding and filling of the ESC unit, brake lines and master cylinder with brake fluid.
