ENGINE BREAK-IN RECOMMENDATIONS — DIESEL ENGINE (IF EQUIPPED)
A diesel engine does not require a break-in period due to its construction. Normal operation is permitted if the following recommendations are observed:
- Warm up the engine before placing it under load.
- Do not idle the engine for extended periods.
- Use the appropriate gear to prevent engine lugging.
- Monitor the engine oil pressure and temperature indicators.
- Check the coolant and engine oil levels frequently.
- Vary the throttle position at high speeds when carrying or towing heavy loads.
NOTE:
Light operation, such as towing a light trailer or operating without a load, will extend the time until the engine reaches full power. Reduced fuel economy and power may be noticed during this time.
The engine oil filled at the factory is a high-quality energy-conserving type of lubricant. Oil changes must be made according to the expected climatic conditions in which the vehicle will be operated. Refer to the recommended viscosity grades and quality. NON-DETERGENT OR STRAIGHT MINERAL OILS MUST NEVER BE USED.
