STARTING AND OPERATING

ENGINE STARTING — DIESEL ENGINE (IF EQUIPPED)

~1min read

Before starting the vehicle, adjust the seat, both the inside and outside mirrors, and fasten your seat belts.

The starter motor may crank for intervals of up to 30 seconds. Waiting several minutes between such intervals will protect the starter from overheating.

  • Before leaving the vehicle, always come to a complete stop, then shift the automatic transmission into PARK and apply the Parking Brake.
  • Always verify that the Keyless Ignition Node is in the OFF state, the key fob is removed from the vehicle, and the vehicle is locked.
  • Never leave children alone in a vehicle or with access to an unlocked vehicle. Leaving children unattended in a vehicle is dangerous for a number of reasons. A child or others can be seriously or fatally injured. Children should be warned not to touch the parking brake, brake pedal, or gear selector.
  • Do not leave the key fob inside or near the vehicle, or in a location accessible to children, and do not leave the vehicle with the Keyless Enter-N-Go system in ACC or ON/RUN mode. A child could operate the power windows, other controls, or move the vehicle.
  • Do not leave children or animals inside parked vehicles in hot weather. Heat buildup in the interior can result in serious injury or death.

NOTE:

Starting the engine at very low ambient temperatures may produce visible white smoke. This condition will disappear as the engine warms up.

  • The engine may crank for up to 30 seconds. If the engine does not start within this period, wait at least two minutes for the starter to cool before repeating the starting procedure.
  • If the "Water in Fuel" indicator remains on, do NOT start the engine until water is drained from the fuel filters to avoid engine damage.
