ELECTRO-HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING

~1min read

Your vehicle is equipped with an electro-hydraulic power steering system that provides good vehicle response and improved maneuverability in confined spaces. The system will vary its assistance to provide light effort during parking and good feel during driving. If the electro-hydraulic power steering system experiences a fault that prevents it from providing power steering assistance, the system will provide mechanical steering capability.

If the message "POWER STEERING SERVICE" and a flashing icon appear in the instrument cluster display, this indicates that the vehicle must be taken to a dealer for service. The vehicle has likely lost power steering assistance.

If the message "POWER STEERING HOT" and an icon appear in the instrument cluster display, this indicates that extreme steering maneuvers may have occurred that caused overheating in the electric power steering system. You will temporarily lose power steering assistance until the temperature condition no longer exists. Once driving conditions are safe, stop and allow the vehicle to idle for several seconds until the light turns off.

NOTE:

  • Even if the power steering no longer operates, the vehicle can still be steered. Under these conditions, there will be a significant increase in steering wheel effort, especially at very low vehicle speeds and during parking maneuvers.
  • If the condition persists, contact an authorized dealer for service.
