PARKING BRAKE
Before leaving the vehicle, make sure the parking brake is fully applied. Also be sure to leave the automatic transmission in PARK, or the manual transmission in REVERSE or FIRST gear.
The parking brake lever is located in the center console. To apply the parking brake, pull the lever up as far as it will go. To release the parking brake, pull the lever up slightly, press the center button, then lower the lever fully.

Parking Brake Lever
When the parking brake is applied with the ignition on, the brake system warning light in the instrument cluster will illuminate.
NOTE:
- If the parking brake is applied and the automatic transmission is placed in gear, the brake warning light will flash. If the vehicle detects speed, a audible chime will sound. Fully release the parking brake before attempting to drive away.
- This indicator only shows that the parking brake is applied. It does not show the degree of brake application.
When parking on a hill, it is important to turn the front wheels toward the curb on a downhill grade and away from the curb on an uphill grade. For vehicles with an automatic transmission, apply the parking brake before moving the shift selector to PARK; otherwise, the load on the transmission locking mechanism may make it difficult to move the shift selector out of PARK.
- Never use the PARK position of the automatic transmission as a substitute for the parking brake. Always fully apply the parking brake when parking to prevent vehicle movement and possible injury or damage.
- When leaving the vehicle, always remove the ignition key fob and lock your vehicle.
- Never leave children unattended in the vehicle or with access to an unlocked vehicle. Allowing children to remain in a vehicle unattended is dangerous for many reasons. A child or others could be seriously or fatally injured. Children must be warned not to touch the parking brake, brake pedal, or shift selector.
- Do not leave the key fob inside or near the vehicle, or in a location accessible to children. A child may operate the power windows, other controls, or move the vehicle.
- Make sure the parking brake is fully released before driving; failure to do so may result in brake failure and a collision.
- Always fully apply the parking brake when leaving the vehicle, or it may roll and cause damage or injury. Also be sure to leave the automatic transmission in PARK, or the manual transmission in REVERSE or FIRST gear. Failure to do so may cause the vehicle to roll and cause damage or injury.
