Windshield Wiper Blades
Clean the rubber edges of the wiper blades and the windshield periodically with a sponge or soft cloth and a mild non-abrasive cleaner. This will remove accumulations of salt or road film. Operating the wipers on a dry windshield for long periods may cause wiper blade wear. Always use washer fluid when operating the wipers to remove salt or dirt from a dry windshield.
Do not use the wiper blades to remove frost or ice from the windshield. Keep the rubber blade away from contact with petroleum products such as engine oil, gasoline, etc.
NOTE:
Wiper blade service life varies depending on geographic area and frequency of use. Poor blade performance may be indicated by chatter, streaks, water lines, or wet spots. If any of these conditions are present, clean the wiper blades or replace them as necessary.
Wiper blades and arms should be inspected periodically, not only when wiper performance problems occur. This inspection should include the following items:
- Wear or uneven edges
- Foreign material
- Hardening or cracking
- Deformation or fatigue
If the wiper blade or wiper arm is damaged, replace the damaged arm or blade with a new unit. Do not attempt to repair the wiper arm or a damaged blade.
