Description

The Surround View Monitor (SVM) system provides 360-degree video monitoring around the vehicle. The system includes 4 ultra-wide-angle cameras installed around the vehicle (front, both sides, and rear). The video from these cameras is processed using distortion compensation, viewpoint conversion, and video merging technology to provide a bird's-eye view of the area surrounding the vehicle, as well as various other view modes. The SVM system provides the driver with video of the area around the vehicle while parking or driving at low speed to improve safety and convenience. In addition, the system also displays the surrounding video image, including steering-synchronized guide line display, front and rear object warning, and A/S (including In-Line) tolerance compensation functions.
This system displays video from ultra-wide-angle cameras installed on the four sides of the vehicle on the head unit screen. It shows a 360-degree bird's-eye view of the vehicle surroundings, as well as various other view modes. The SVM system provides the driver with video of the area around the vehicle when the vehicle is parked or driven at low speed to improve safety and convenience.

Main Specifications

  1. Surrounding Vehicle Video Display. The surround video display function shows the 360-degree video image captured by the 4 cameras to the driver through the head unit screen when the vehicle moves at low speed or reverses. The SVM system displays a total of 8 video modes for showing the surrounding video based on the vehicle driving state and driver selection.
  2. Guide Line Display and Steering Wheel Synchronization Function. The guide line display and steering wheel synchronization is a feature that assists the driver when parking. The guide line on the rear view video display is synchronized with the steering wheel, helping to determine the vehicle's direction of travel when reversing.
  3. Front/Rear Object Warning (Obstacle Detection Function). The system receives obstacle warning signals from the PAS or SPAS sensors installed at the front and rear of the vehicle and displays the obstacle location on the AVM head unit screen.
  4. Tolerance Compensation (Including A/S). Manual tolerance compensation software is built into the SVM ECM to compensate for SVM deviation that may occur due to assembly line installation tolerance. You must first set up the proper operating environment to perform correct tolerance compensation.

View Modes
  1. Front View Mode
  2. Rear View Mode
SVM Mode Entry Conditions. Vehicle information is checked regularly, even after entering SVM mode. When the conditions are met, conversion from front view mode to rear view mode is available, and vice versa. When the mode is converted, the view displayed on the screen may be the initial view or the previous view depending on the condition. If the mode conversion is an initial entry, the default view is selected based on front or rear. If continuous front-rear mode conversion occurs, when forward and reverse movement is repeated during parking, the previous view is recalled and displayed.
  • Initial entry: when the rear or front view in SVM mode is displayed on the screen for the first time.
  • Re-entry: when switching from SVM mode to another mode without turning SVM off and returning to the previous mode (e.g., Rear → Front → Rear: re-entry to rear mode / Front → Rear → Front: re-entry to front mode).
Switching Mode Vehicle Speed Mechanism SVM Switch Display View
Rear → Front below 20 km/h R range or P range excluded ON Initial Entry: front view is set in the initial view mode option.
Re-entry: the last view mode displayed in the previous front mode.
Front → Rear Not applicable Reverse Gear Not applicable Initial Entry: rear view is set in the initial view mode option
Re-entry: the last view mode displayed in the previous rear mode.

SVM Mode Exit. If the conditions below are met in SVM mode, SVM is turned off and video is not displayed.
OFF mode Vehicle Speed Mechanism SVM Switch Notes
Front mode more than 20 km/h R range or P range OFF If any one of the three conditions is met
Rear mode Not applicable Except R gear Not applicable If any one of the two conditions is met

SVM Options. For user convenience, SVM provides the user with three selectable options. The option change window (parking guide settings) is displayed on the AVN. Only the changed option parameters are sent to the SVM unit via M_CAN. These three options are applied as soon as they are selected by the user. Depending on the conditions, the initial views are displayed as follows.
Option Function Default settings
Steering Lock Interlocks with the steering to display the vehicle's direction of travel during parking. Classification code
Close Distance Warning Indicator Indicates obstacle detection at the front and rear Classification code
Initial View Mode Setting Default view displayed when entering SVM mode Front view + surround view
Rear + surround view

Steering Lock Guide Line Display Operation. The steering lock guide line display uses the steering wheel angle value periodically received by the SVM unit via C-CAN. The rear area, which displays the 130-degree rear view image (split mode), and the wide view are displayed with the expected vehicle travel path.
  1. View Modes for Steering Lock Guide Display
    Mode View Application Area Notes
Rear Surround View + Rear View Rear Image (Split Mode)
Left Rear + Rear Rear Image (Split Mode)
Right Rear + Rear Rear Image (Split Mode)
    Rear Wide View Wide-Screen Image
  2. Steering Lock Guide Line Specifications
    Number Range Color
    0.5 m Red
    1 m Yellow
    3 m Yellow
Left edge of bumper + 0.3 m Yellow
Right edge of bumper + 0.3 m Yellow

  3. Neutral Trace Line Indication. If the steering wheel angle is neutral, the neutral trace line is indicated in blue, showing the expected vehicle travel path. This line is displayed together with the steering-locked trace guide lines, as well as a fixed line that does not change with steering wheel angle operation.
