Tolerance Calibration. Tolerance calibration compensates for surround view video errors caused by installation tolerances when the four cameras that make up the SVM system are installed. You must perform tolerance calibration if you do any of the following.
  • Remove and install the wide camera.
  • Perform a body task that causes a change in the focus of the wide-angle camera, such as a body task.
  • Replace the outside mirror with the wide camera.
  • Replace the surround view control unit.
Environment Required for Tolerance Compensation Task
Tolerance Calibration Procedures
  1. Prepare as follows.
    • Check that the hood, trunk, and doors are closed.
    • Close the door after sitting in the driver's seat.
    • Set the vehicle power to the IGN (ON) position.
    • Unfold the side mirror when it is folded.
    • Set the gear selector to the N position.
    • Check the ON/OFF status of the indicator lamp inside the SVM switch.
    • Do not install the device in a way that blocks the rear camera's viewing angle during preparation, such as an air intake.
    • In addition, the tolerance calibration procedure must be performed in the IGN (ON) state after removing smoke with a fan, because smoke from the exhaust outlet may interfere with the rear view.
Apply the parking brake or electronic parking brake (EPB) to keep the vehicle from moving.
  2. Check the normal operation of the SVM ECU and cameras before entering tolerance calibration mode.
    • Check whether the initially installed screen image from the SVM is displayed. (Front view screen image with gear in N position + around view screen image)
    • Check whether the front, rear, left, and right images are displayed normally on the around view screen.
    • Enter tolerance calibration mode when the screen image is output normally. Replace the relevant parts when the output is abnormal or absent.
  3. Connect the equipment and vehicle as shown in the following illustration to perform manual SVM screen image calibration.
  4. Turn the vehicle ignition OFF.
  5. Remove the glove box to connect the GDS-SVM connector to the SVM unit. (Refer to Body Electrical System - Around View Monitor Control Unit)
  6. Disconnect the 24-pin connector connecting the SVM unit to the vehicle wiring harness.
  7. Connect the 24-pin connector of the GDS-SVM image capture equipment to the SVM unit connector. It is connected in a T-shape, as shown in the following illustration.
Make sure the connection is secure, with an audible click when the connector is connected.
  8. Connect the GDS VCI and the vehicle with the DLC cable.
The VCI and AVM must be connected to the PC using a USB cable. The GDS-VCI must always be connected to the PC using a USB cable, because calibration image data must be transmitted to the AVM controller. Do not disconnect the 24-pin connector of the SVM controller (ECU) while the ignition is ON (IGN). (Risk of module damage)
  9. Place the calibration scales (2 pcs), calibration reference line boards (2 pcs), and calibration targets (4 pcs) near the vehicle, referring to the supplied operation manual.
Align the center of the front wheel with the calibration reference line board, classifying type A and type B. Special care is required for accuracy (distance/angle) at the center position of the white and black calibration boards, as this is the standard coordinate.
    • Front/rear and left/right tolerance must be controlled within 3 cm.
    • The rotation error for vehicle alignment must be controlled within 1 degree left and right.
  10. Keep the ignition in the ON position with the vehicle stopped, check that the gear selector is in the "P" position, and apply the parking brake even on level ground.
  11. Perform the work with the SVM switch on the vehicle set to the "ON" position.
  12. Perform manual SVM tolerance compensation according to the GDS diagnostic display.
  13. Proceed with the following procedure by referring to the GDS on-screen instructions. The manual tolerance compensation guide is supplied with the equipment.
