Good Driving Practices

  • Never move the shift lever from P (Park) to any other position with the accelerator pedal depressed.
  • Never shift the shift lever into P (Park) while the vehicle is moving.
  • Decelerate before shifting to a lower gear. Otherwise, the lower gear may not engage.
  • Always use the parking brake. Do not rely on placing the transmission in P (Park) to keep the vehicle from moving.
  • Optimum vehicle performance and fuel economy are obtained by smoothly depressing and releasing the accelerator pedal.

✽ WARNING - Kickdown Mechanism

Use the kickdown mechanism for maximum acceleration. Depress the accelerator pedal beyond the pressure point. The automatic transmission will downshift depending on engine speed.

Driving Up a Steep Hill from a Standstill

To climb a steep slope from a standstill, depress the brake pedal and shift the shift lever to the D (Drive) position. Select an appropriate gear depending on the load weight and the steepness of the slope, then release the parking brake. Depress the accelerator pedal gradually while releasing the service brake.
