Lane Keep Assist (LKA)

~2min read

Lane Keeping Assist recognizes lane markers on the road with a front view camera on the windshield and helps the driver steer the steering wheel to help keep the vehicle in its lane. When the system detects that the vehicle is drifting out of its lane, it warns the driver with a visual and audible warning, and applies a light counter-steering torque to try to prevent the vehicle from leaving its lane.

  • LKA helps prevent unintentional lane departure by assisting the driver in steering the vehicle. If the driver intentionally drives on one side of the lane, continuous steering effort may occur.

However, the system is simply a convenience function and steering control is not always maintained. While driving, the driver must pay attention to the steering wheel.

WARNING

  • The driver is responsible for being aware of the surroundings and driving the vehicle safely.
  • Do not turn the steering wheel suddenly while the steering wheel is receiving assistance from the system.

✽ NOTICE

  • LKA operation may be cancelled or may not function properly depending on road conditions and surroundings. Always drive with caution.
  • Do not disassemble the front view camera or attach any type of coating or accessories to it. If you disassemble the front view camera, take your vehicle to an authorized Kia dealer to have the system checked to see if it requires calibration.
  • When replacing the windshield, the windshield, front view camera, or similar steering wheel parts, take your vehicle to an authorized Kia dealer to check whether the system requires calibration.
  • The system detects lane markings and controls steering using the front view camera, so if the lane markers are difficult to detect, the system may not operate properly. Always be careful when using the system.
  • When lane markings are difficult to detect, refer to "Driver Attention Warning".
  • Do not remove or damage the related components of the front view camera system.
  • Do not place reflective objects, such as mirrors, white paper, etc., on the dashboard. This may cause LKA malfunction when sunlight is reflected.
  • You may not hear the LKA warning sound due to excessive audio volume.
  • If other warning sounds, such as the seat belt warning chime, are operating and override the LKA alert, the LKA warning sounds may not be heard.
  • At high vehicle speeds, the steering torque required for assistance may be insufficient to keep the vehicle within the lane. If so, the vehicle may drift out of its lane. Always observe the speed limit when using LKA.
  • If you attach objects to the steering wheel, the system may not assist steering.
  • If you attach objects to the steering wheel, the hands-off warning may not function properly.
