WARNING
- Whenever you leave or park your vehicle, always set the parking brake as firmly as possible and fully shift the transmission into P (Park) position. If the parking brake is not fully applied, the vehicle may move unintentionally and injure yourself and others.
- Always make sure the parking brake is fully applied when parking all vehicles to prevent unintended vehicle movement that may injure passengers or pedestrians.
- Make sure the parking brake is released and the parking brake indicator light goes off before driving.
- When driving through water, the brakes may get wet. They may also get wet when the vehicle is washed. Wet brakes can be dangerous! Your vehicle will not stop as quickly if the brakes are wet. Wet brakes may also cause the vehicle to pull to one side.
- To dry the brakes, lightly apply the brake pedal until the braking action returns to normal, while keeping the vehicle under control at all times. If the braking action does not return to normal, stop as soon as it is safe to do so and we recommend that you have the brakes checked by an authorized Kia dealer.
- Never coast down a hill in neutral. This is extremely dangerous. Always keep the vehicle in gear, use the brakes to slow down, then shift to a lower gear so that engine braking helps you maintain a safe speed.
- Do not "ride" the brake pedal. Keeping your foot on the brake pedal while driving can be dangerous, as it may cause the brakes to overheat and lose their effectiveness. It also increases wear on brake system components.
- If a tire goes flat while driving, apply the brake pedal gently and keep the vehicle pointed straight ahead while slowing down. When you are moving slowly enough to do so safely, steer off the road and stop in a safe place.
- If your vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission/dual clutch transmission, do not let the vehicle creep forward. To prevent creeping, keep your foot firmly on the brake pedal when the vehicle is stopped.
- Be careful when parking on a hill. Firmly apply the parking brake and shift the gear selector lever to P (automatic transmission/dual clutch transmission) or into first or reverse gear (manual transmission). If your vehicle is facing downhill, turn the front wheels toward the curb to prevent the vehicle from rolling. If your vehicle is facing uphill, turn the front wheels away from the curb to help keep the vehicle from rolling. If there is no curb or if conditions require it, block the wheels.
- Under certain conditions, the parking brake may freeze in the applied position. This most often happens when snow or ice accumulates around the rear brakes, or if the brakes are wet. If there is a risk that the parking brake may freeze, apply it only temporarily while placing the shift lever in P (automatic transmission/dual clutch transmission) or in first or reverse gear (manual transmission), and block the rear wheels so the vehicle cannot roll. Then release the parking brake.
- Do not hold the vehicle on a hill with the accelerator pedal. This may cause the transmission to overheat. Always use the brake pedal or the parking brake.
