Installing Child Restraint Systems Using the Top Tether Anchorage

~2min read

The top tether anchorages for child restraint systems are located on the rear of the seatbacks.

This symbol indicates the location of the tether anchorage.

1. Route the top tether strap of the child restraint system over the seatback.

On vehicles with adjustable head restraints, route the top tether strap under the head restraint and between the head restraint posts. Otherwise, route the top tether strap over the top of the seatback. If the child restraint system interferes with the head restraint, remove the head restraint to install the child restraint system better.

2. Connect and tighten the top tether strap to the corresponding child restraint system to secure the child restraint system.

WARNING

A child can be seriously injured or killed in a collision if the child restraint system is not properly secured to the vehicle and the child is not properly secured in the child restraint system. Always follow the child restraint manufacturer's installation and use instructions.

WARNING: Top Tether

Never install more than one child restraint system on a single top tether strap or to a single top tether anchorage. The increased load caused by multiple child restraint systems may cause the top tether straps or anchorages to fail, resulting in serious injury or death.

WARNING - Checking the Child Restraint System

Make sure the child restraint system is secured by pushing and pulling it in different directions. Improperly installed child restraint systems may swing, twist, tip over, or come loose, which may result in death or serious injury.

WARNING - Child Restraint System Anchorages

  • Child restraint system anchorages are designed to withstand loads only from properly installed child restraint systems. Under no circumstances should they be used for adult seat belts or harnesses, or for attaching other items or equipment to the vehicle.
  • The top tether may not function properly if it is attached to a different anchorage than the correct one.
