Using a Child Restraint System

~1min read

Child restraint systems are required for small children and infants. The child restraint system must be the correct size for the child and must be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

For safety reasons, we recommend using a child restraint system on the rear seats.

WARNING

Never install a rear-facing child restraint system on the front passenger seat unless the front passenger airbag is turned off. The inflating passenger front airbag can strike a rear-facing child restraint system and kill the child.

WARNING

Always remove the floor under the tray cover when using a child seat with a support leg on the second-row side seat.

The support leg must rest firmly on the vehicle floor.

WARNING

  • A child may be seriously injured or killed in a collision if the child restraint system is not properly secured to the vehicle, or if the child is not properly secured in the child restraint system. Before installing a child restraint system, read the instructions supplied with the child restraint system by the manufacturer.
  • If the seat belt does not operate as described in this section, we recommend that the system be inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.
  • Failure to follow the instructions in this manual regarding child restraint systems and the instructions supplied with the child restraint system may increase the likelihood and/or severity of injury in an accident.
  • Temporarily adjust or remove any head restraint that interferes with proper installation of the child restraint system. Be sure to return all removed head restraints to the position for adult passengers.
