~2min read

Before Entering the Vehicle

  • Make sure all windows, outside mirrors, and exterior lights are clean.
  • Check the condition of the tires.
  • Check under the vehicle for signs of leaks.
  • Make sure there are no obstacles behind you before backing up.

Required Checks

Fluid levels, such as engine oil, engine coolant, brake fluid, and washer fluid, should be checked on a regular basis, at intervals specific to each fluid. For further details, refer to Chapter 7, "Maintenance".

WARNING! Distracted Driving

Concentrate on the road while driving. The driver's primary responsibility is the safe and legal operation of the vehicle. Do not use any handheld devices, other equipment, or vehicle systems that may distract the driver while the vehicle is in operation.

Before Starting

  • Close and lock all doors.
  • Adjust the seat so that all controls are easily reachable.
  • Fasten the seat belt.
  • Adjust the inside and outside rearview mirrors.
  • Make sure all lights work.
  • Check all gauges.
  • Check that the warning light comes on when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position.
  • Release the parking brake and make sure the brake warning light goes off.

For safe operation, make sure you are familiar with your vehicle and its equipment.

WARNING. Fire Hazard.

When parking or stopping the vehicle with the engine running, be careful not to depress the accelerator pedal for a long period of time. The engine or exhaust system may overheat and cause a fire.

WARNING - Check the Surroundings

Always check the areas around your vehicle for people, especially children, before shifting into D (Drive) or R (Reverse).

WARNING - Loose Objects

Store items securely in your vehicle. When you stop suddenly or turn the steering wheel quickly, unsecured items may fall onto the floor and may interfere with pedal operation, possibly causing an accident.

WARNING - Driving While Impaired

Do not drive under the influence of alcohol. Driving while impaired is dangerous. Even a small amount of alcohol will affect your reflexes, perception and judgment. Driving under the influence of drugs is equally or more dangerous than driving while intoxicated.

WARNING. Footwear

Always wear suitable footwear when driving your vehicle. Unsuitable footwear (high heels, ski boots, sandals, etc.) may interfere with your ability to properly operate the brake and accelerator pedals.
