Driving Your Vehicle

Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW)

~2min read

The Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW) system uses radar sensors in the rear bumper to monitor and warn the driver of approaching vehicles in the driver's blind spot.

The system monitors the rear area of the vehicle and provides information to the driver through an audible alert and an indicator on the outside rearview mirror.

WARNING

  • Always stay alert to road conditions while driving and be prepared for unexpected situations even though the BCW system is operating.
  • BCW is not a substitute for proper and safe driving. Always drive carefully and use caution when changing lanes or backing up the vehicle. BCW may not detect every object near the vehicle.

(1) Blind spot

The BCW detection range varies according to vehicle speed. Note that if your vehicle is traveling much faster than the vehicles around you, no warning will be given.

(2) High-speed closing

The BCW High-Speed Closing function warns you when a vehicle is approaching quickly in an adjacent lane. If the driver turns on the turn signal when the system detects an approaching vehicle, the system sounds an audible alert. The distance of an approaching vehicle may be perceived differently depending on relative speed.

(3) RCCW (Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning)

The RCCW function monitors for approaching cross traffic from the left and right sides of the vehicle when your vehicle is moving in reverse. The function operates when the vehicle is moving in reverse below approximately 10 km/h. If an approaching cross traffic is detected, a warning chime will sound. The distance from the approaching vehicle may be perceived differently depending on the relative speed.

WARNING

  • Always check road conditions while driving for unexpected situations, even though the BCW (Blind-Spot Collision Warning) system is operating.
  • The BCW (Blind-Spot Collision Warning) system is a convenience system. Do not rely solely on the system, and always pay attention to driving safely.
  • The distance from an approaching vehicle may be perceived differently depending on the relative speed.
