What to Do in an Emergency

Check Tire Pressure

~3min read
  • You can check the tire pressure in the information mode on the cluster.
    - Refer to "User Settings Mode" in Chapter 4.
  • Tire pressure is displayed 1-2 minutes after driving.
  • If tire pressure is not displayed when the vehicle is stopped, "Drive to Display" appears. After driving, check the tire pressure.
  • You can change the tire pressure unit in the user settings mode of the cluster.
    - psi, kPa, bar (refer to "User Settings Mode" in Chapter 4).

✽ NOTICE

  • Tire pressure may change due to factors such as parking conditions, driving style, and altitude.
  • The tire pressure shown on the instrument panel may differ from the tire pressure measured with a tire pressure gauge.
  • The low tire pressure warning may sound when the tire pressure unit is equal to or lower than that of adjacent tires. This is a normal phenomenon caused by changes in tire pressure with tire temperature.

Check all tires, including the spare tire (if equipped), monthly when cold and inflate to the tire pressure recommended by the vehicle manufacturer on the vehicle placard or tire pressure label. (If your vehicle has tires of a different size than the size indicated on the vehicle placard or tire pressure label, you must determine the correct tire pressure for those tires.)

As an additional safety measure, your vehicle is equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) that illuminates the low tire pressure warning light when one or more of your tires is significantly under-inflated. Accordingly, when the low tire pressure warning light illuminates, you should stop and check your tires as soon as possible, and inflate them to the proper pressure. Driving on a significantly under-inflated tire causes the tire to overheat and can lead to tire failure. Under-inflation also reduces fuel efficiency and tire life, and may affect the vehicle's handling and stopping ability.

Please note that the TPMS is not a substitute for proper tire maintenance, and it is the driver's responsibility to maintain correct tire pressure, even if underinflation has not reached the level required to activate the TPMS low tire pressure warning light.

Your vehicle is also equipped with a TPMS malfunction indicator to indicate when the system is not functioning properly. The TPMS malfunction indicator is combined with the low tire pressure warning light. When the system detects a malfunction, the warning light will flash for approximately one minute and then remain continuously illuminated. This sequence will continue during subsequent vehicle starts as long as the malfunction exists. When the malfunction indicator is illuminated, the system may not be able to detect or signal low tire pressure as intended. TPMS malfunctions may occur for a variety of reasons, including the installation of replacement or alternate tires or wheels on the vehicle that prevent the TPMS from functioning properly.

Always check the TPMS warning light after replacing one or more tires or wheels on your vehicle, to make sure the replacement or changed tires and wheels allow the TPMS to continue to function normally.

✽ NOTICE

If the TPMS low tire pressure warning light does not illuminate for approximately 3 seconds when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, or if it remains illuminated after approximately 3 seconds, have your vehicle taken to the nearest authorized Kia dealer and have the system inspected.
