Removal

  • Be sure to read and observe the "General Safety Information and Caution" before performing any work on the high voltage system. Failure to follow the safety instructions may result in serious electrical injury.
  • Always disconnect the high-voltage circuit in accordance with the "High Voltage Disconnection Procedure" before performing any work on the high-voltage system to avoid serious electric shock.
  1. Disconnect the high-voltage circuit. (Refer to Automatic Transmission - "High Voltage Disconnection Procedure").
  2. Remove the lower cover (A).

    Tightening torque: 7.8 ~ 11.8 N·m

  3. Drain the coolant from the hybrid engine cooling system. (Refer to Hybrid Powertrain System - "Engine Coolant")
  4. Drain the coolant from the engine and transaxle cooling system. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Coolant")
  5. Remove the hybrid power control unit (HPCU) assembly. (Refer to Hybrid Control System - "HPCU (Hybrid Power Control Unit)")
  6. Remove the air duct (A).

    Tightening torque: 7.8 ~ 9.8 N·m

  7. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
    1. Disconnect the breather hose (A).
    2. Disconnect the air intake hose (B) and remove the air cleaner assembly (C).
    Tightening torque: Hose clamp bolt: 2.9 ~ 4.9 N·m Air cleaner mounting bolts: 7.8 ~ 9.8 N·m
    • When installing the air intake hose, align the clamp plate with the hose stopper.
    • When installing the air intake hose, align the center of the mark on the hose with the rib of the throttle body.
  8. Remove the hybrid power control unit (HPCU) tray (A).

    Torque: 19.6 ~ 29 N·m

  9. Remove the heater hose pump (A).
  10. Disconnect the solenoid valve connector (B) and the interlock switch connector (A).
  11. Disconnect the resolver sensor connector (A) and remove the wire harness bracket (B, C).
  12. Remove the motor connector (A).
  13. Remove the electric oil pump (EOP) connector (A).
  14. Remove the shift cable (C) by removing the nut (A) and bolt (B). Tightening torque: (A) 9.8 ~ 14.7 N·m (B) 14.7 ~ 22 N·m
  15. Remove the ground line after removing the bolt (A).
  16. Remove the ATF warmer hose (A).
  17. Remove the automatic transaxle upper mounting bolts (A - 2 EA).

    Tightening torque: 42.2 ~ 54 N·m

  18. Assemble the engine support. (Refer to Special Service Tools - "Engine Support Assembly Drawing")
  19. Using the engine support, securely hold the engine and transaxle assembly.
  20. Remove the cover (A).
  21. Remove the automatic transaxle bracket mounting bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 107.9 - 128 N·m

  22. Remove the automatic transmission support bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 58.8 ~ 78 N·m

  23. Remove the electric oil pump (EOP) connector (A) and clamps (B).
  24. Remove the clutch pressure sensor (CPS) connector (C).
  25. Remove the drive shaft assembly. (Refer to Drive Shaft and Axle - "Drive Shaft Assembly")
  26. Remove the suspension crossmember assembly. (Refer to Suspension System - "Front Suspension System")
  27. Remove the heat protector (A). Tightening torque: Transaxle side: 11.8 ~ 13.7 N·m Engine side: 21.6 ~ 26 N·m
  28. Remove the mounting bolts (A, B) while supporting the transaxle with a jack. Tightening torque: (A) 42.2 ~ 48 N·m (B) 42.2 ~ 54 N·m
  29. Remove the transaxle by slowly lowering the jack.
Be careful not to damage other systems or components when removing the transaxle assembly.

Installation

  1. Install in the reverse order of removal.
    • When installing a new transaxle, remove the suspension bracket (A), then install the transaxle. (Reinstallation is not required)
    • If the transaxle oil seal is damaged and fluid is leaking, replace the oil seal. When installing a new oil seal, use the special tool (oil seal installer: 09452-3D100).
    • Perform the procedures described below after replacing the transaxle.
    1. Fill the automatic transmission with fluid. (Refer to Hydraulic System — "Fluid").
    2. Fill the engine and transaxle cooling system with coolant. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Coolant")
    3. Fill the hybrid engine cooling system with coolant, then perform air bleeding using GDS. (Refer to Hybrid Powertrain System - "Engine Coolant")
    4. Erase the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) using GDS. Even if the negative battery terminal is disconnected, DTCs will not be cleared. Therefore, be sure to clear the DTCs using GDS.
    5. Reset the automatic transmission adaptive values using GDS.
    6. Perform resolver sensor calibration using GDS. (Refer to Hybrid Powertrain System - "Resolver Sensor")
    7. Perform clutch pressure sensor calibration using GDS. (Refer to Hybrid Control System - "Clutch Pressure Sensor")
    8. Perform the procedure to store the TCM adaptive values. (Refer to "Automatic Transmission Control System - Repair Procedures")
