Parking Brake
Applying the parking brake

Pedal Travel
To apply the parking brake, first apply the foot brake, then press the parking brake pedal down fully.

Lever Type
To apply the parking brake, first apply the foot brake, then, without pressing the release button, pull the parking brake lever up as far as it will go.
In addition, when parking the vehicle on a slope, it is recommended that the gear shift lever be placed in the appropriate low gear of the manual transmission.
CAUTION
Driving with the parking brake applied will cause excessive wear of the brake pads and brake disc.
Releasing the Parking Brake

Pedal Travel
To release the parking brake, press the parking brake pedal a second time while applying the foot brake. The pedal will automatically return to the fully released position.

Lever Type
To release the parking brake, first apply the foot brake and lift the parking brake lever slightly. Second, press the release button (1) and lower the parking brake lever (2) while holding the button.
WARNING
- To prevent unintended movement when stopping and leaving the vehicle, do not use the gear shift lever in place of the parking brake. Apply the parking brake AND make sure the gear shift lever is securely placed in 1st (first) gear or R (reverse) for vehicles with a manual transmission, and P (park) for vehicles with an automatic transmission.
- Never allow anyone who is not familiar with the vehicle to touch the parking brake. Unintentional release of the parking brake may result in serious injury.
- Always make sure the parking brake is fully applied when parking all vehicles to prevent unintended vehicle movement that may injure passengers or pedestrians.

Check the brake warning light by turning the ignition switch ON (do not start the engine). This warning light illuminates when the parking brake is applied with the ignition switch in the START or ON position.
Before driving, make sure the parking brake is fully released and the brake warning light is off.
If the brake system warning light remains on after releasing the parking brake while the engine is running, there may be a malfunction in the brake system. Immediate attention is required.
If possible, stop driving the vehicle immediately. If this is not possible, be extremely careful when operating the vehicle and continue to drive only until you can reach a safe location or a repair shop.
