Removal

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2. Remove the lower airbag panel and reinforcement panel. (Refer to Body - Airbag Pad)
  3. Remove the lower duct (A).
  4. Pull down the steering column shaft after removing the bolts and nuts. (Refer to Steering Group - Steering Column and Shaft)
  5. Disconnect the stop lamp switch connector (A) and the brake pedal travel sensor connector (B).
  6. Remove the brake pedal mounting nut (A).
  7. Remove the lock pin (A) and the flat head pin (B).
  8. Remove the brake pedal assembly mounting nuts (A), then remove the brake pedal assembly.

Installation

  1. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  2. Check the brake pedal operation.
  3. Perform calibration after removing the brake pedal assembly.
Brake Pedal Position Sensor Calibration. The brake pedal position sensor calculates the full pedal stroke based on the set zero point. Therefore, zero adjustment is required when first installed. Calibration must be performed in the following cases:
  • After replacing the brake pedal assembly (the sensor cannot be replaced separately)
  • After replacing the BAU (Brake Actual Unit)
  • When DTC C1380 (calibration) or C1379 (signal error) is detected.
  • After bleeding the IBAU and PSU lines.
Calibration Procedure. Calibration must be performed when the vehicle is parked, the brake pedal is not depressed, and there is no vehicle vibration.
  1. Connect GDS. (CAN line or OBD connector)
  2. Turn the ignition on.
  3. Select brake pedal sensor calibration.
  4. Follow the prompts displayed on the GDS screen to complete the brake pedal sensor calibration.
  5. Turn the ignition OFF after the calibration procedure.
  6. Check whether the calibration was successful or failed.

Brake Light Switch Clearance Adjustment

Removal
  6. Pull the lock plate (A) as shown by the arrow.
  7. Turn the brake switch 45° counterclockwise and remove it.
  8. Inspect the stop lamp switch.
    1. Connect a circuit tester to the stop lamp switch connector and check for continuity when the stop lamp switch plunger is pressed and when it is released.
    2. The stop lamp switch is normal if there is no continuity when the plunger is pressed.
  9. With the brake pedal fully released, insert the brake switch until it fully contacts the brake pedal arm.
  10. After installation, turn the brake switch 45° clockwise, then press the locking plate to secure it.
  11. Check the clearance between the brake switch and the bracket.

    Brake clearance (A): 1.0 – 2.0 mm (0.04 – 0.08 in.)

  12. Connect the brake switch connector (A).
Inspection Installation Adjustment

Brake Switch Clearance Adjustment

If the clearance between the brake switch and the bracket is not within 1.0–2.0 mm (0.04–0.08 in.), perform the following procedure:
  1. Disconnect the brake switch connector (A).
  2. Pull the lock plate (A) as shown by the arrow.
  3. Turn the brake switch 45° counterclockwise and remove it.
  4. With the brake pedal fully released, insert the brake switch until it fully contacts the brake pedal arm.
  5. After insertion, turn the brake switch 45° clockwise, then press the locking position to assemble.
  6. Check the clearance between the brake switch and the bracket.

    Brake clearance (A): 1.0 – 2.0 mm (0.04 – 0.08 in.)

  7. Connect the brake switch connector (A).
