High Beam Assist

~3min read

High Beam Assist is a system that automatically adjusts the headlight beam range (switching between high beam and low beam) depending on the brightness of other vehicles and road conditions.

Operating Condition

1. Set the light switch to the AUTO position.

2. Turn on the high beam by pushing the lever away from you. High Beam Assist () will illuminate.

3. High Beam Assist activates when the vehicle speed exceeds 40 km/h.

  • If the lever is pushed away while High Beam Assist is operating, the High Beam Assist system will turn off and the high beam will remain on continuously. High Beam Assist () indicator will turn off.
  • If the lever is pulled toward you while the High Beam Assist system is operating, the High Beam Assist system will turn off.

4. If the light switch is set to the headlight position, the high beam control system will turn off and the low beam will remain on continuously.

The high beam switches to low beam in the following cases:

- When High Beam Assist is turned off.
- When the light switch is not in the AUTO position.
- When an oncoming vehicle's headlights are detected.
- When a preceding vehicle's taillights are detected.
- When the surroundings are bright enough that high beams are not needed.
- When street lights or other lights are detected.
- When vehicle speed is below 24 km/h.
- When a motorcycle or bicycle headlight/taillight is detected

The system may not operate under the following conditions:

  • When the light from a vehicle is not detected due to a damaged lamp or because it is hidden from view, etc.
  • When the lamp of a vehicle is covered with dust, snow, or water.
  • When the light from a vehicle is not detected due to exhaust gas, smoke, fog, snow, etc.
  • When the windshield is covered with foreign matter such as ice, dust, or fog, or is damaged.
  • When a lamp with a shape similar to the vehicle's headlights is present.
  • When visibility is poor due to fog, heavy rain, or snow.
  • When the headlight is not repaired or replaced at an authorized dealer.
  • If the headlamp aim is not adjusted properly.
  • When driving on a narrow winding road or an uneven road.
  • When driving downhill or uphill.
  • When only part of the vehicle ahead or the road is visible at an intersection or in a curve.
  • When there is a traffic light, reflective sign, flashing sign, or mirror.
  • When road conditions are poor, such as wet or snow-covered roads.
  • When the headlamps are off but the fog lamps are on.
  • When a vehicle suddenly appears from around a curve.
  • When the vehicle leans due to a flat tire or when towing.
  • When the LKA (Lane Keeping Assist) warning lamp illuminates. (if equipped)
