Liftgate Without Power Operation
Opening the Tailgate

- The liftgate locks or unlocks when all doors are locked or unlocked with the smart key or the central door lock/unlock switch.
- Only the liftgate unlocks when the liftgate unlock button on the smart key is pressed and held for approximately 1 second.
- If the liftgate is unlocked, it can be opened by pressing the handle and lifting it up.
- Once the liftgate is opened and then closed, it locks automatically. (All doors must be locked.)
WARNING - Exhaust Gas
The liftgate must always be fully closed while the vehicle is moving. If it is left open or partially open, exhaust gas may enter the vehicle and cause serious injury or death.
WARNING
The tailgate swings upward. Make sure there are no objects or people near the rear of the vehicle when opening the liftgate.
✽ NOTICE
In cold and humid climates, the liftgate lock and liftgate mechanisms may not operate properly due to freezing conditions.
Closing the Tailgate

Lower the liftgate and press it firmly closed. Make sure the liftgate is securely locked.
CAUTION
Make sure to close the liftgate before driving. The power tailgate lift cylinders and attached equipment may be damaged if the power tailgate is not closed before driving.
WARNING
Make sure your hands, feet, and other parts of your body are clear before closing the liftgate.
CAUTION
Make sure nothing is near the liftgate latch and striker when closing the liftgate. This may damage the liftgate latch.
WARNING - Exhaust Gas
If you drive with the liftgate open, hazardous exhaust gases will enter the vehicle, which may cause serious injury or death to vehicle occupants. If you must drive with the liftgate open, keep the vents and all windows open to allow additional outside air into the vehicle.
WARNING - Riding in the Cargo Area
Passengers should never ride in the rear cargo area where no restraint devices are available. To avoid injury in an accident or sudden stop, passengers must always be properly secured.
