✽ NOTICE
If the engine start/stop button is ON, the power liftgate may operate when the automatic transmission is in P (Park).
WARNING
Never leave children or animals unattended in the vehicle.
Children or animals may operate the power liftgate, which may cause injury to themselves or others, or damage to the vehicle.
✽ NOTICE
Do not place heavy objects on the power liftgate while it is operating.
WARNING
Make sure there are no people or objects in the path of the power liftgate (or smart liftgate) before use. Serious injury, vehicle damage, or damage to surrounding objects may occur if contact is made with the power liftgate (or smart liftgate).
CAUTION
Do not close or open the power liftgate manually. This may cause damage to the power liftgate. If it is necessary to close or open the power liftgate manually when the battery is discharged or disconnected, do not apply excessive force.
Opening the Tailgate

The power liftgate opens automatically when you do one of the following:
• Press the liftgate unlock button on the smart key for approximately one second.

• Press the power liftgate open button for approximately one second.

• Press the switch on the liftgate handle while carrying the smart key.
Closing the Tailgate

• Press the power liftgate close button for approximately one second when the liftgate is open.
The liftgate will close and lock automatically.

• Press the power liftgate close button for approximately one second when the liftgate is open. The liftgate will close and lock automatically.
Power Liftgate, Conditions for Not Opening or Closing
- The power liftgate does not open or close automatically when the vehicle is traveling at a speed above 3 km/h.
- The power liftgate can be operated when the engine is off. However, operating the power liftgate consumes a large amount of vehicle battery power. To prevent battery discharge, do not use it excessively (for example, more than about 10 times consecutively).
- Do not modify or repair any part of the power liftgate yourself. This must be performed by an authorized Kia dealer.
- Before raising the vehicle with a jack to replace a tire or perform service, open the power liftgate. Do not open the power liftgate while the vehicle is raised, as this may cause the power liftgate to malfunction.
- If there is an obstacle on the power liftgate, such as snow, it may not open automatically. Remove the obstacle and try to open it again.
Automatic Stop and Reverse

If an object or part of a person's body blocks the power liftgate during powered opening or closing, the power liftgate will detect the resistance and stop moving or move to the fully open position so the object can be cleared.
However, if the object is thin or soft, or the power liftgate is near the fully closed position, the automatic stop and reverse may not detect the resistance and the closing operation will continue. If the power liftgate receives a strong impact, the automatic stop and reverse may operate.
If the automatic stop and reverse function operates more than twice during a single opening or closing, the power liftgate may stop in that position.
In this case, close the liftgate manually and then operate the power liftgate again.
WARNING
To avoid serious injury and damage, observe the following precautions when operating the power liftgate:
- Keep all persons, hands, body parts, and other objects away from the path of the power liftgate.
- Do not intentionally place any body part or object in the path of the liftgate to test the automatic stop and reverse function.
- Do not allow children to play with the power liftgate.
How to Reset the Power Liftgate
If the battery is discharged or disconnected, or if the related fuse has blown, been replaced, or been removed, reset the power liftgate for normal operation as follows:
1. Press the P (Park) button.
2. While pressing the liftgate close button, press and hold the switch on the liftgate handle for more than 3 seconds. (A chime will sound.)
3. Close the liftgate manually.
If the power liftgate does not operate properly after performing the above procedure, have the system checked by an authorized Kia dealer.
