Outside Rear View Mirror

~3min read

Always adjust the mirror angles before driving.

Your vehicle is equipped with both left and right outside rearview mirrors. The mirrors can be adjusted remotely using the remote mirror switch. The mirror heads can be folded back to prevent damage during an automatic car wash or when driving through a narrow street.

The passenger-side outside rearview mirror is convex. Objects seen in the mirror are closer than they appear.

Use the inside rearview mirror or look directly over your shoulder to judge the actual distance to vehicles following when changing lanes.

WARNING - Rearview Mirror

Do not scrape ice off the mirror; this may damage the glass surface. If ice prevents mirror movement, do not force the mirror to adjust. To remove ice, use de-icing spray, a sponge, or a soft cloth with very warm water.

If the mirror is frozen, do not force the mirror adjustment. Use an approved de-icing spray (not radiator antifreeze) to free the frozen mechanism, or move the vehicle to a warm place and allow the ice to melt.

WARNING - Mirror Adjustment

Do not adjust or fold the outside rearview mirrors while driving. This may cause loss of vehicle control.

Outside Rearview Mirror Adjustment

The remote-control mirror switch allows you to adjust the position of the left and right outside rearview mirrors. To adjust either mirror, press the R or L button (1) to select the right or left outside mirror, then press the appropriate point (▲) on the mirror adjustment control to position the selected mirror up, down, left, or right.

After adjusting, press the R or L button again to prevent unintentional changes.

CAUTION - Outside Mirror

  • The mirrors stop moving when they reach the maximum adjustment angle, but the motor continues to run as long as the switch is pressed. Do not hold the switch longer than necessary, or the motor may be damaged.
  • Do not attempt to adjust the outside rearview mirror manually. Doing so may damage the components.

Rear View Monitor Parking Assist Function

When the vehicle is in reverse, the outside rearview mirrors will tilt down to assist with reverse parking. Depending on the position of the remote-control mirror switch (1), the outside rearview mirrors will operate as follows:

L/R: When the remote-control mirror switch (1) is set to L (left) or R (right), both outside rearview mirrors will tilt down.

Neutral position: When the remote-control mirror switch is in the center position, the outside rearview mirrors will not operate while the vehicle is in reverse.

The outside rearview mirrors will automatically return to their original position under the following conditions:

1. The Engine Start/Stop button is in the OFF position.

2. The shift lever is moved to any position other than R (Reverse).

3. The remote-control mirror switch is in the center position.

Folding the Outside Rearview Mirror

Electric Type

The outside rearview mirror can be folded or unfolded by pressing the switch as shown below.

Left (1): The mirror unfolds.

Right (2): The mirror folds.

Center (AUTO, 3):

The mirror folds or unfolds automatically as follows:

  • The mirrors will fold or unfold when the doors are locked or unlocked with the Smart Key.
  • The mirrors will fold or unfold when the doors are locked or unlocked with the button on the outside door handle.
  • The mirrors will unfold when you approach the vehicle (all doors closed and locked) with the Smart Key.

CAUTION - Power Outside Rearview Mirror

The power outside rearview mirrors operate even when the Engine Start/Stop button is in the OFF position. However, to prevent battery discharge, do not adjust the mirrors longer than necessary while the engine is not running.

Do not fold the power outside rearview mirrors manually. This may cause motor failure.
