Integrated HomeLink® Wireless Control System

~6min read
1special tools

The HomeLink® wireless control system provides a convenient way to replace up to three hand-held radio frequency (RF) transmitters with a single built-in device. This innovative feature allows you to learn the radio frequency codes of most current transmitters used to control devices such as gate operators, garage door openers, entry door locks, security systems, and even home lighting. Both standard and rolling code transmitters can be programmed by following the described procedures. For more information about HomeLink®, visit www.homelink.com or call 1-800-355-3515.

❈ HomeLink® is a registered trademark of Johnson Controls, Inc.

Keep the original transmitter of the radio frequency device you are programming for use in other vehicles, as well as for future HomeLink® programming. It is also recommended that the programmed HomeLink® buttons be erased when the vehicle is sold, for security reasons.

Programming HomeLink®

✽ NOTICE

  • When programming a garage door opener, it is recommended that you park the vehicle outside the garage.
  • It is recommended that a new battery be installed in the hand-held transmitter being programmed to HomeLink® for faster learning and accurate transmission of the radio frequency signal.
  • On some vehicles, it may be necessary to turn the ignition key to the second position to program and/or operate HomeLink®.
  • If you still have difficulty programming or have questions after performing the programming steps listed below, contact HomeLink® at www.homelink.com or 1-800-355-3515.

Standard Programming

To train most devices, follow these instructions:

1. For initial programming, press and hold the two outer HomeLink® buttons, Channel 1 and Channel 3, until the indicator begins to flash (after 20 seconds). Release both buttons. Do not hold the buttons for longer than 30 seconds.

2. Hold the end of the hand-held transmitter 2–8 cm (1–3 in.) away from the HomeLink® button, keeping the indicator light in view.

3. Simultaneously press and hold the HomeLink® button and the handheld transmitter button. Do NOT release the buttons until step 4 is complete.

4. Continue holding the buttons. The red status indicator LED will flash slowly, then quickly, once HomeLink® has successfully learned the frequency signal from the handheld transmitter. Release both buttons.

5. Press and hold the newly trained HomeLink® button and observe the red status indicator LED. If the indicator stays on steadily, programming is complete and your device should activate when the HomeLink® button is pressed and released.

6. To program the remaining two HomeLink® buttons, follow steps 2 through 5.

Rolling Code Programming

Rolling code devices that are "code-protected" and manufactured after 1996 can be identified as follows:

  • Refer to the device's owner's manual for verification.
  • The handheld transmitter programs the HomeLink® universal transceiver but does not activate the device.
  • Press and hold the trained HomeLink® button. If the device has rolling code function, the indicator will flash rapidly, then light continuously after 2 seconds.

To train rolling code devices, follow these instructions:

1. At the garage door opener receiver (motor head) in the garage, locate the "Learn" or "Smart" button. It is usually found where the antenna wire is attached to the motor unit. The exact location and color of the button may vary depending on the garage door opener brand. If you have difficulty locating the Learn button, refer to the garage door opener owner's manual or visit our website at www.homelink.com.

2. Firmly press and release the "Learn" or "Smart" button (which activates the "training light").

✽ NOTICE

You have 30 seconds to begin step 3.

3. Return to the vehicle, press and hold the desired HomeLink® button for two seconds, then release. Repeat the press/hold/release sequence once more to complete programming. (Some devices may require repeating this sequence a third time to complete programming.)

4. Press and hold the newly trained HomeLink® button and observe the red status indicator LED. If the indicator stays on steadily, programming is complete and your device should activate.

5. To program the remaining two HomeLink® buttons, follow steps 1 through 4 above for other rolling code devices, or steps 2 through 5 in standard programming for standard devices.

Gate Operator and Canadian Programming

During programming, your handheld transmitter may automatically stop transmitting. Continue pressing the Integrated HomeLink® Wireless Control System button (note steps 2 through 4 in the "Standard Programming" section of this document) while pressing and releasing ("cycling") the handheld transmitter every two seconds, until the radio frequency signal is learned. The indicator will flash slowly, and then rapidly, a few seconds after successful training.

Using HomeLink®

To operate, simply press and release the programmed HomeLink® button. Activation will now occur for the trained device (i.e., garage door opener, gate operator, security system, entry door lock, home/office lighting, etc.). For convenience, the device's hand-held transmitter can also be used at any time.

Reprogramming a Single HomeLink® Button

To program a new device to a previously trained HomeLink® button, perform the following steps:

1. Press and hold the desired HomeLink® button. DO NOT release until step 4 has been completed.

2. When the indicator starts to flash slowly (after 20 seconds), hold the hand-held transmitter 2 to 8 cm (1 to 3 in.) from the HomeLink® surface.

3. Press and hold the handheld transmitter button. The HomeLink® indicator will flash slowly, then rapidly.

4. When the indicator starts flashing rapidly, release both buttons.

5. Press and hold the newly trained HomeLink® button and observe the red status indicator LED. If the indicator remains on continuously, programming is complete and your new device should activate.

Erasing HomeLink® Buttons

Individual buttons cannot be erased. However, to erase all three programmed buttons:

1. Press and hold the two outer HomeLink® buttons until the indicator starts flashing after 20 seconds.

2. Release both buttons. Do not hold for longer than 30 seconds.

The HomeLink® Wireless Control System is now in the training (learning) mode and can be programmed at any time by following the appropriate steps in the Programming section above.
