Eco-Coasting System
When certain conditions are met, the engine is automatically disconnected from the transmission while the shift lever remains in the D (Drive) position. In this ECO Coasting mode, the engine remains at idle to reduce fuel consumption and increase coasting distance. The engine automatically reconnects when the ECO Coasting deactivation conditions are met. Refer to the ECO Coasting activation and deactivation conditions.
Eco-Coasting System Setting
The Eco-Coasting system is activated by selecting Eco-Coasting from the AVN: "Vehicle Coasting Setting" (refer to the AVN manual for details). When the Eco-Coasting system is activated, the "Coasting" message appears at the top center of the cluster.
CAUTION
- If the accelerator pedal is pressed quickly to accelerate while the Eco-Coasting system is operating, acceleration may occur after the clutch engages inside the transmission. In this case, the driver may continue to feel acceleration even after the system is turned off.
- In some cases, it may be necessary to drive with the Eco-Coasting system turned off, since engine braking is not applied while the Eco-Coasting system is operating.
- Using the AVN screen to activate or deactivate the Eco-Coasting system while driving can be dangerous, as it distracts the driver's attention.
Eco-Coasting Operating Conditions
The Eco-Coasting system is activated when the accelerator pedal is released under the following conditions.
- When the drive mode is ECO mode.
- When the driver accelerates in SMART ECO mode in SMART mode.
- When the shift lever is in the D (Drive) position.
- When the cruise control/Smart Cruise Control button is off.
- The accelerator pedal or brake pedal is not depressed.
- When the vehicle speed is within the range of 55 km/h to 160 km/h (100 mph).
- If the road gradient is within the range of -5% to +5%.
- In SMART mode, if the distance to the preceding vehicle and the relative speed are within a specified range (if Smart Cruise system is equipped).
❈ If the front radar of the Smart Cruise system cannot operate normally, the inter-vehicle distance and relative speed conditions are automatically disregarded.
❈ The Eco-Coasting system operates after the engine is started, the transmission is warmed up, and the engine sensor self-diagnosis is completed after startup.
❈ Depending on road conditions, Eco-Coasting may be temporarily disabled or delayed even if the above conditions are met.
Eco-Coasting System Release Conditions
The Eco-Coasting system will be automatically released when the following conditions occur.
- When COMFORT or SPORT drive mode is selected.
- In SMART mode, when the driver accelerates in SMART COMFORT or SMART SPORT.
- When using the steering wheel shift paddles.
- When the cruise control/Smart Cruise Control button is on (the
/CRUISE indicator is illuminated). - When the accelerator pedal or brake pedal is depressed.
- When the vehicle speed is outside the range of 55 km/h to 160 km/h (100 mph).
- The road gradient is less than -5% or exceeds +5%.
- In SMART mode, if the distance to the preceding vehicle is too short or there is a sudden change in relative speed (if Smart Cruise Control is equipped).
- If a lane change is performed in SMART mode (LKA warning with turn signal lamp control or steering wheel operation).
❈ It is recommended to turn off the Eco-Coasting system in driving conditions with frequent acceleration or deceleration.
Change the drive mode to COMFORT or SPORT mode, or turn off the Eco-Coasting mode on the AVN screen.
