Lane Keep Assist (LKA)

~2min read

The Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) system is designed to detect lane markings on the road using the front view camera mounted on the windshield and assists the driver by providing steering assistance to help keep the vehicle within its lane.

When the system detects that the vehicle is drifting out of its lane, it warns the driver with a visual and audible warning and applies a small counter-steering torque, attempting to prevent the vehicle from leaving its lane.

WARNING

Do not turn the steering wheel abruptly while the vehicle is being steered by the LKA system. This may result in sudden loss of control and may cause the vehicle to leave the road.

WARNING

The Lane Keeping Assist system is a supplementary system and not a substitute for safe driving. The driver must always pay attention and drive safely.

✽ NOTICE

The driver is responsible for monitoring the surroundings and controlling the vehicle, and for observing safe driving rules.

  • Do not disassemble the front view camera or apply any tinting films, coatings, or accessories to the windshield near the camera. If the camera is disassembled and reassembled, take your vehicle to an authorized Kia dealer and have the system inspected.
  • When replacing the windshield, front view camera, or LKA system components, take your vehicle to an authorized Kia dealer and have the system inspected.
  • The system is designed to detect lane markings using the front view camera. If lane markings are difficult to detect, the system may be limited. Always use the system with caution.
  • If lane markings are difficult to detect, refer to "Driver Attention Warning."
  • Do not remove or damage any components of the LKA system.
  • Do not place reflective objects, such as mirrors or information documents, on the instrument panel. They may interfere with system operation.
  • You may not hear the LKA system warning sound due to a loud audio system.
  • If you drive without holding the steering wheel, the LKA system will stop controlling the steering wheel after the warning alarm sounds. Afterward, if you drive while holding the steering wheel, control will be reactivated.

✽ NOTICE

  • If the vehicle speed is high, the steering torque provided by the system will not be sufficient to keep the vehicle within the lane. In this case, the vehicle may drift out of its lane. Observe the speed limit when using the LKA system.
  • If you attach objects to the steering wheel, the system may not be able to assist with steering.
  • If you attach any objects to the steering wheel, the hands-off warning may not work properly.
