Airbag Deployment Conditions

~1min read

Front Airbags

Front airbags are designed to deploy in a frontal collision depending on the severity, speed, or angle of the frontal impact.

Side airbags and curtain airbags

Side airbags and/or curtain airbags are designed to inflate in a side impact detected by the side impact sensors, depending on the severity, speed, or angle of the side impact.

Although the front airbags (driver and front passenger airbags) are designed to inflate only in frontal collisions, they may also inflate in other types of collisions if the frontal impact sensors detect sufficient impact. Side airbags (side impact airbags and/or curtain airbags) are designed to inflate only in side collisions, but they may inflate in other collisions if the side impact sensors detect sufficient impact.

If the vehicle chassis is subjected to bumps or objects on unimproved roads or curbs, the airbags may deploy. Drive carefully on unimproved roads or surfaces not intended for vehicle travel to prevent unintentional airbag deployment.
