Description of Scheduled Maintenance Items
Engine Oil and Filter
Engine oil and filter must be replaced at the intervals specified in the Maintenance Schedule. If the vehicle is operated under severe conditions, oil and filter replacement is required more frequently.
Seat Belts
Inspect all drive belts for cuts, cracks, excessive wear, or oil saturation, and replace as necessary. Seat belts should be periodically checked for proper operation and adjusted as necessary.
Fuel Filter (Cartridge)
A clogged filter may limit the speed at which the vehicle can be driven, damage the emission system, and cause multiple problems such as hard starting. If a large amount of foreign matter excessively accumulates in the fuel tank, the filter may need to be replaced more often.
After installing a new filter, run the engine for several minutes and check the connections for leaks. We recommend that the fuel filter be replaced by an authorized Kia dealer.
Fuel Lines, Fuel Hoses, and Connections
Inspect fuel lines, fuel hoses, and connections for leaks and damage. We recommend that fuel lines, fuel hoses, and connections be replaced by an authorized Kia dealer.
WARNING - Diesel fuel only
Never work on the injection system with the engine running or within 30 seconds after the engine is turned off. The high-pressure pump, rail, injectors, and high-pressure lines remain under high pressure even after the engine has stopped. Fuel spray caused by fuel leaks can cause serious injury if it contacts the body. People using pacemakers must not approach the ECU or wiring harness in the engine compartment within 30 cm while the engine is running, since large currents in the Common Rail system produce significant magnetic fields.
Vapor Hose and Fuel Tank Cap
The evaporative hose and fuel tank cap must be inspected at the interval specified in the maintenance schedule. Make sure a new evaporative hose or fuel tank cap is installed correctly.
Crankcase ventilation hoses (if equipped)
Inspect the hose surfaces for signs of heat and/or mechanical damage. Hard and brittle rubber, cracks, tears, cuts, abrasions, and excessive swelling indicate deterioration. Special attention should be paid to inspecting the hose surfaces closest to heat sources, such as the exhaust manifold.
Inspect the hose routing to make sure the hoses do not contact any heat source, sharp edges, or moving components that may cause heat damage or mechanical wear. Inspect all hose connections, such as clamps and couplings, to make sure they are secure and that there are no leaks. Hoses must be replaced immediately if there are signs of wear or damage.
Air Cleaner Filter
We recommend that the air cleaner filter be replaced by an authorized Kia dealer.
Spark Plugs (Gasoline Engine)
Be sure to install new spark plugs with the correct heat range.
Valve Clearance (for gasoline engine)
Check for excessive valve noise and/or engine vibration and adjust if necessary. We recommend that valve clearance be serviced by an authorized Kia dealer.
Cooling System
Inspect the cooling system components, such as the radiator, coolant reservoir, hoses, and connections, for leaks and damage. Replace any damaged parts.
coolant
Engine coolant should be replaced at the intervals specified in the Maintenance Schedule.
Manual transmission fluid (if equipped)
Inspect the manual transmission fluid according to the maintenance schedule.
Dual clutch transmission fluid (if equipped)
Inspect the dual clutch transmission fluid according to the maintenance schedule.
Automatic transmission fluid (if equipped)
Automatic transmission fluid should not be checked under normal driving conditions.
However, under severe operating conditions, we recommend that the system be serviced by an authorized Kia dealer in accordance with the Maintenance Schedule.
✽ NOTICE
The color of automatic transmission fluid is normally red.
During vehicle operation, the automatic transmission fluid will become darker. This is a normal condition, and you should not judge the need to replace the fluid based on its changed color.
CAUTION
Using a non-specified fluid may cause transmission malfunction and failure.
Use only the specified automatic transmission fluid. (Refer to "Recommended Lubricants and Capacities" in Chapter 8.)
Brake Hoses and Lines
Visually inspect for proper installation, chafing, cracks, wear, and any leaks. Replace any worn or damaged parts immediately.
Brake fluid
Check the brake fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir. The level should be between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks on the side of the reservoir. Use only hydraulic brake fluid meeting DOT 3 or DOT 4 specification.
Brake Pads, Calipers, and Discs
Check the pads for excessive wear, the discs for runout and wear, and the calipers for fluid leaks.
For more information on checking the brake pad or lining wear limit, refer to the website. ( http://www.kia-hotline.com )
Suspension Mounting Bolts
Check the suspension connections for looseness or damage. Tighten to the specified torque.
Parking Brake
Inspect the parking brake system, including the EPB actuator, wiring and connectors.
Steering Gear Box, Linkage and Lower Arm Boots/Ball Joint
With the vehicle stopped and the engine off, check for excessive steering wheel free play.
Check the connection for bends or damage. Check the dust boots and ball joints for wear, cracks, or damage. Replace any damaged parts.
Drive Shafts and Boots
Check the drive shafts, boots and clamps for cracks, wear or damage. Replace damaged parts and repack grease if necessary.
Air conditioner refrigerant/compressor (if equipped)
Check the air conditioner lines and connections for leaks and damage.
