| 1. Auto Defog Actuator |
Description and Operation
Description
The automatic defog sensor is installed on the windshield. The sensor detects and sends a signal when moisture appears, so that air is blown to prevent fogging. The air conditioning control module receives the signal from the sensor and controls moisture removal and defog protection through the intake actuator, air conditioning, automatic defog actuator, blower motor speed, and mode actuator.
Repair Procedures
Inspection
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the auto defog actuator connector.
Check that the automatic anti-fog actuator operates in the open position when 12 V is applied to terminal 3 and ground is applied to terminal 7.
Check that the automatic defog actuator operates in the closed position when the connections are reversed.

Specification
Door Position Voltage (V) Fault Detection Anti-Fog ON (Open) 0.5 ± 0.15 V Low voltage: 0.7 V or less Anti-Fog OFF (Close) 4.5 ± 0.15 V High voltage: 4.9 V or less If the measured voltage does not meet the specification, check operation by replacing the existing automatic defog actuator with a new genuine part. Then determine whether the automatic defog actuator needs to be replaced.
Replacement
Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
Remove the driver airbag module assembly.
(See Body — "Main Airbag Assembly")
Disconnect the connector (A), loosen the mounting screws, and remove the automatic anti-fog actuator (B).

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
