Tire Replacement

1. Park on a level surface and firmly apply the parking brake.
2. Move the gear selector to R (Reverse) for a vehicle with a manual transmission, or to P (Park) for a vehicle with an automatic transmission.
3. Turn on the hazard warning flashers.

4. Remove the wheel nut wrench, jack, jack handle, and spare tire from the vehicle.
5. Chock the front and rear wheels on the opposite side of the wheel being changed.
WARNING
Tire Replacement
- To prevent the vehicle from moving during tire replacement, always apply the parking brake fully and always block the wheel diagonally opposite the wheel being replaced.
- We recommend that the vehicle wheels be blocked and that no one remain in the vehicle while the tire is being changed.

6. Loosen the wheel nuts counterclockwise by one turn each, but do not remove all the nuts until the tire has been raised off the ground.

7. Position the jack at the front (1) or rear (2) jacking point closest to the tire being replaced. Place the jack head in the designated locations under the frame. The jacking points are plates welded to the frame with two protrusions and a raised indexing point for the jack.
WARNING
Jacking Point Location
To reduce the risk of injury, always use only the jacking point provided on the vehicle and in the correct jacking position. Never use any other part of the vehicle to support the jack.

8. Insert the jack handle into the jack and turn it clockwise to raise the vehicle until the tire clears the ground. This distance is approximately 30 mm (1.2 in). Before loosening the wheel nuts, make sure the vehicle is stable and there is no possibility of it moving or slipping.
9. Loosen the wheel nuts and remove them by hand. Slide the wheel off the studs and lay it flat so it cannot roll away. Select the spare tire, align the holes with the studs, and install the wheel onto the hub.
If this is difficult, tilt the wheel slightly and align the upper hole in the wheel with the upper stud. Then rock the wheel back and forth until it can be slid over the other studs.
WARNING
Wheels may have sharp edges. Handle them carefully to avoid possible serious injury. Before installing the wheel, make sure there is nothing on the hub or wheel (such as dirt, resin, gravel, etc.) that prevents the wheel from seating flat against the hub.
If there is, remove it. If there is not good contact with the mounting surface between the wheel and hub, the wheel nuts may loosen and the wheel may come off. Loss of a wheel may result in loss of vehicle control, which may cause serious injury or death.
10. To reinstall the wheel, hold it by the studs, place the wheel nuts on the studs, and tighten them finger-tight. Rock the tire to make sure it is fully seated, then tighten the nuts as much as possible by hand again.
11. Lower the vehicle to the ground, then turn the wheel nuts clockwise with the wheel wrench.

Position the wrench as shown in the illustration and tighten the wheel nuts. Make sure the socket is fully seated on the nut. Do not stand on the wrench handle or use an extension tube over the handle. Tighten the wheel by working in a star pattern, tightening every other nut until all are tight. Then recheck each nut for tightness. After wheel replacement, have the system checked at a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer or service partner.
Wheel nut tightening torque:
Steel wheel and aluminum alloy wheel: 11~13 kgf·m (79~94 lbf·ft)
If you have a pressure gauge, remove the valve cap and check the air pressure. If the pressure is below the recommended level, drive slowly to the nearest service station and inflate to the correct pressure. If it is too high, adjust it to the correct level. Always reinstall the valve cap after checking or adjusting the tire pressure. If the cap is not installed, air may leak from the tire. If you lose the valve cap, purchase a new one and install it as soon as possible.
After replacing the wheel, always secure the flat tire in its place and return the jack and tools to their storage locations.
CAUTION
Your vehicle has metric wheel studs and nuts. When removing a wheel, make sure the same nuts that were removed are reinstalled or, if replaced, that metric-threaded nuts with the same seat configuration are used. Installing a non-metric nut on a metric stud, or vice versa, will not secure the wheel to the hub correctly and will damage the stud, so it must be replaced.
Note that most nuts do not have metric threads. Be sure to check the thread style carefully before installing aftermarket nuts or wheels.
If in doubt, consult a professional workshop. Kia recommends consulting an authorized Kia dealer or service partner.
WARNING
Wheel Studs
If the studs are damaged, they may lose their ability to hold the wheel. This may result in loss of the wheel and a collision, which may cause serious injury.
To prevent the jack, jack handle, wheel wrench, and spare tire from rattling while the vehicle is in motion, store them properly.
WARNING
Insufficient Spare Tire Pressure
Check the tire pressure as soon as possible after installing the spare tire. Adjust it to the specified pressure if necessary. Refer to the "Tires and Wheels" section on page 9-06.
Important - Use of Compact Spare Tire (if equipped)
Your vehicle is equipped with a compact spare tire. This compact spare tire takes up less space than a standard-size tire. This tire is smaller than a standard tire and is intended for temporary use only.
CAUTION
- You must drive carefully when using the compact spare. The compact spare must be replaced with a suitable standard tire and discarded at the first opportunity.
- Operating this vehicle with more than one compact spare tire in use at the same time is not recommended.
WARNING
The compact spare tire is for emergency use only. Do not drive your vehicle faster than 80 km/h with this compact spare. The original tire must be repaired or replaced as soon as possible to avoid failure of the spare, which may result in personal injury or death.
The compact spare tire must be inflated to 420 kPa (60 psi).
NOTICE
Check the tire inflation pressure after installing the spare tire. Adjust it to the specified pressure if necessary.
When using the compact spare tire, observe the following precautions:
- Under no circumstances should you exceed 80 km/h; higher speed may damage the tire.
- Make sure you drive slowly enough to avoid all hazards. Any road hazard, such as a pothole or debris, can seriously damage the compact spare tire.
- Any continued road use of this tire may result in tire failure, loss of vehicle control, and possible injury.
- Do not exceed the maximum load capacity or load rating shown on the sidewall of the compact spare tire.
- Avoid driving over obstacles. The diameter of the compact spare tire is smaller than that of a standard tire and reduces ground clearance by approximately 2.5 cm (1 in.), which may cause damage to the vehicle.
- Do not drive the vehicle through an automatic car wash while the compact spare tire is installed.
- Do not use snow chains on the temporary compact spare tire. Due to its smaller size, the snow chain will not fit properly. This may damage the vehicle and cause the chain to come loose.
- The temporary compact spare tire must not be installed on the front axle if the vehicle must be driven on snow or ice.
- Do not use the temporary compact spare tire on any other vehicle, because this tire was designed specifically for your vehicle.
- The tread life of a temporary compact spare tire is shorter than that of a standard tire. Inspect your temporary compact spare tire regularly and replace worn compact spare tires with the same size and construction installed on one wheel.
- The temporary compact spare tire must not be used on any other wheels, nor should standard tires, winter tires, wheel covers or decorative rings be used with the temporary compact spare wheel. Attempting such use may damage these items or other vehicle components.
- Do not use more than one temporary compact spare tire at a time.
- Do not tow a trailer while the temporary compact spare tire is installed.
