Fuel Tank in Engine Compartment

~3min read

If your vehicle is an FFV (flexible fuel vehicle), check and fill the cold start fuel tank with gasoline when the outside air temperature is low (below 20°C).

The rated capacity of the cold start gasoline tank is 0.8 liters, and the tank is located in the engine compartment.

Fill the cold start tank with gasoline until it reaches the MAX line. If gasoline overflows, wipe up the spilled fuel with a cloth.

WARNING

Refueling

  • If pressurized fuel sprays out, it may cover your clothing or skin, creating a risk of fire and burns. Always remove the fuel cap carefully and slowly. If the cap releases fuel or you hear a hissing sound, wait until the condition stops before fully removing the cap.
  • Do not "top off" the tank after the fuel nozzle has automatically shut off during refueling.
  • Always make sure the fuel filler cap is installed securely to prevent fuel from spilling in the event of an accident.

WARNING

Refueling Hazards

Motor fuel is a flammable material. When refueling, carefully observe the following recommendations.

Failure to follow these recommendations may result in serious injury, severe burns or death from fire or explosion.

  • Read and follow all warnings at the fuel station.
  • Before refueling, locate the emergency fuel shut-off switch, if equipped, at the filling station.
  • Before touching the fuel nozzle, you must eliminate potentially hazardous static electricity discharge by touching another metal part of the vehicle, at a safe distance from the fuel filler neck, nozzle or other fuel source.
  • Do not return to the vehicle once you have started refueling, as touching, rubbing or sliding over any object or fabric (polyester, satin, nylon, etc.) capable of generating static electricity may occur. A static electricity discharge may ignite fuel vapors, causing rapid combustion. If you must get back into the vehicle, you should again eliminate potentially hazardous static electricity discharge by touching a metal part of the vehicle, away from the fuel filler neck, nozzle or other fuel source.
  • When using an approved portable fuel container, always place the container on the ground before refueling. Static discharge from the container may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire. Keep in contact with the vehicle while refueling until filling is complete. Use only approved portable plastic fuel containers designed to transport and store gasoline.
  • Do not use mobile phones while refueling. Electrical current and/or electronic interference from cellular phones may potentially ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire.
  • Always turn the engine off when refueling. Sparks produced by electrical components associated with the engine may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire. After refueling is complete, make sure the fuel filler cap and fuel filler door are securely closed before starting the engine.
  • Do NOT use matches or a lighter. Do NOT SMOKE and do not leave a lit cigarette in the vehicle while at a gas station, especially during refueling. Motor fuel is highly flammable and may cause a fire if ignited.
  • If a fire occurs during refueling, leave the vehicle area immediately, contact the filling station attendant, and then contact the local fire department. Follow all safety instructions they provide.

CAUTION

  • Be sure to fuel your vehicle according to the "Fuel Requirements" on page 1-03 in Section 1.
  • If the fuel filler cap needs to be replaced, make sure you use a part designed for your vehicle. An incorrect fuel filler cap may cause serious malfunction of the fuel system or emission control system. For more information, Kia recommends contacting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
  • Do not spill fuel on the exterior surfaces of the vehicle. Any type of fuel spilled on painted surfaces may damage the paint.
  • After refueling, make sure the fuel cap is installed securely to prevent fuel spillage in the event of an accident.
