Tire Replacement

~2min read

If a tire wears evenly, the tread wear indicator (A) will appear as a solid band across the tread. This indicates that the tread depth is less than 1.6 mm (1/16 inch) on the tire. Replace the tire when this occurs.

Do not wait until the band appears across the entire tread before replacing the tire.

NOTICE

We recommend that when replacing tires, you use the same tires as originally fitted to the vehicle. If not, handling will be affected.

CAUTION

When replacing tires, re-check and tighten the wheel nuts after driving about 50 km (31 miles), and re-check again after about 1,000 km (620 miles). If the steering wheel shakes or the vehicle vibrates while driving, the tire may be unbalanced. Rebalance the tires. If the problem persists, contact a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.

WARNING

Tire Replacement

To reduce the possibility of serious or fatal injury as a result of a tire failure or loss of vehicle control:

  • Replace worn tires if they show uneven wear or damage. Worn tires can result in loss of braking effectiveness, handling, and traction.
  • Do not drive the vehicle with too little or too much tire pressure. This may result in uneven tire wear and tire failure.
  • When replacing tires, never mix radial and bias-ply tires on the same vehicle. You must replace all tires (including the spare) when changing from radial tires to bias-ply tires.
  • It is best to replace all four tires at the same time. If this is not possible or necessary, replace the two front or two rear tires as a pair. Replacing only one tire may seriously affect the handling of your vehicle.
  • Using tires and wheels other than the recommended sizes may cause abnormal handling characteristics and poor vehicle control, resulting in a serious accident.
  • Wheels that do not meet Kia specifications may fit poorly and cause damage to the vehicle or abnormal handling and poor vehicle control.
  • ABS operates by comparing wheel speeds. Tire size affects wheel rotational speed. When replacing a tire, all four tires must be the same size as originally supplied with the vehicle. Using tires of a different size may cause the ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and ESC (Electronic Stability Control) to operate incorrectly.

Replacing the Compact Spare Tire (if equipped)

The compact spare tire has a shorter tread life than a standard size tire. Replace it when the tread wear indicator bars appear on the tire. The replacement compact spare must be the same size and design as the one supplied with your vehicle and must be installed on the same compact spare wheel. The compact spare wheel is not designed to be mounted on a standard wheel, and the compact spare wheel is not designed to be used with a standard size tire.
