Tire Rotation

~1min read

To equalize tread wear, it is recommended that tires be rotated every 10,000 km (6,500 miles) or sooner if irregular wear develops.

During rotation, check the tires for proper balance.

When rotating tires, check for uneven wear and damage. Abnormal wear is usually caused by incorrect tire pressure, incorrect wheel alignment, unbalanced wheels, hard braking or sharp cornering. Look for bulges or bumps on the tread or sidewall. Replace the tire if you find any of these conditions. Replace the tire if the fabric or cord is visible. After rotation, be sure to set the front and rear tire pressures to specification and check the wheel nut tightening torque.

Refer to "Tires and Wheels" on page 9-06.

Check disc brake pads for wear whenever the tires are rotated.

NOTICE

Radial tires with an asymmetric tread pattern should be rotated only front to rear, not side to side.

WARNING

  • Do not use the compact spare tire (if equipped) for tire rotation.
  • Never mix bias-ply and radial-ply tires under any circumstances. This may cause unusual handling characteristics that can lead to death, serious injury or property damage.
