Maintenance

Recommended cold tire inflation pressure

~2min read

Tire pressure (including the spare tire) should be checked when the tires are cold. "Cold tires" means the vehicle has not been driven for at least three hours or driven less than 1.6 km (one mile). The recommended pressure must be maintained for better ride, better vehicle handling, and minimum tire wear. For recommended inflation pressure, refer to "Tires and Wheels" on page 9-06.

All specifications (sizes and pressures) can be found on the label attached to the vehicle.

WARNING

Low Tire Pressure

Severe under-inflation (70 kPa (10 psi) or more) can cause serious heat buildup, leading to tire blowouts, tread separation, and other tire failures that may result in loss of vehicle control, causing serious injury or death. This risk is much higher on hot days and during long periods of high-speed driving.

CAUTION

  • Insufficient tire inflation also causes excessive wear, poor handling and reduced fuel economy. Wheel damage is also possible. Keep tire pressure at the correct levels. If a tire frequently requires refilling, have the system checked at a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
  • Over-inflation causes a harsh ride, excessive wear in the center of the tire tread, and greater susceptibility to road hazard damage.

CAUTION

  • Warm tires usually exceed the recommended cold tire pressure by 28 to 41 kPa (4 to 6 psi). Do not release air from warm tires to adjust the pressure, or the tires will be under-inflated.
  • Be sure to reinstall the tire inflation valve caps. Without the valve cap, dirt or moisture can enter the valve core and cause an air leak. If a valve cap is missing, install a new one as soon as possible.

WARNING

Tire Inflation

Excessive or insufficient inflation can shorten tire life, adversely affect vehicle handling and lead to sudden tire failure. This may result in loss of vehicle control and potential injury.

CAUTION

Tire Pressure

Always observe the following:

  • Check tire pressure when the tires are cold. (After the vehicle has been parked for at least three hours or driven no more than 1.6 km (one mile) since starting.)
  • Check the spare tire pressure every time you check the pressure of the other tires.
  • Never overload your vehicle. Be careful not to overload the luggage compartment if your vehicle is equipped with one.
  • Worn or old tires can cause accidents. If your tread is severely worn, or if your tires have been damaged, replace them.
