NOTICE

Warning Lights

Make sure all warning lights turn off after the engine is started. If any indicator remains on, this indicates a condition that requires attention.

Airbag Warning Light

This indicator light illuminates:

  • As soon as you set the ignition switch or Engine Start/Stop button to the ON position.
    - Illuminates for approximately 6 seconds and then goes off.
  • When there is a malfunction in the SRS.
In this case, have the vehicle checked at a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.

Seat Belt Reminder Light

This indicator informs the driver that the seat belt is not fastened.

❈ For more details, refer to "Seat Belts" on page 3-14.

Parking Brake and Brake Fluid Warning Light

This indicator light illuminates:

  • As soon as you set the ignition switch or Engine Start/Stop button to the ON position.
    - Illuminates for approximately 3 seconds
    - Stays on if the parking brake is applied.
  • When the parking brake is applied.
  • When the brake fluid level in the reservoir is low.
    - If the warning light illuminates with the parking brake released, it indicates that the brake fluid level in the reservoir is low.

If the brake fluid level in the reservoir is low:

1. Drive carefully to the nearest safe location and stop the vehicle.

2. With the engine stopped, check the brake fluid level immediately and add fluid as necessary (for more details, refer to "Brake Fluid" on page 8-40). Then check all brake system components for fluid leaks. If any brake system leak is found, the warning light remains on, or the brakes do not operate properly, do not drive the vehicle. In this case, tow the vehicle to a professional workshop and have it inspected. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.

Dual Diagonal Brake System

Your vehicle is equipped with a dual diagonal brake system. This means that you still have braking on two wheels even if one of the dual systems should fail.

With only one of the dual systems working, the pedal travel will be longer than normal and greater effort will be required on the pedal to stop the vehicle.

In addition, the vehicle will not stop in a short distance with only part of the brake system working.

If the brakes fail while driving, shift to a lower gear to use engine braking and stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so.

WARNING

Parking Brake and Brake Fluid Warning Light

Driving the vehicle with the warning light on is dangerous. If the parking brake and brake fluid warning light illuminates with the parking brake released, it indicates that the brake fluid level is low. In this case, have the vehicle checked at a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.

Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) Warning Light

This indicator light illuminates:

These two warning lights illuminate at the same time while driving:

  • When the ABS and the conventional brake system may not operate normally. In this case, have the vehicle checked by a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia Dealer/Service Partner.

WARNING

Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) System Warning Light

When the ABS, parking brake and brake fluid level warning lights are all illuminated, the brake system will not operate normally and you may experience an unexpected and dangerous situation during hard braking.

In this case, avoid driving at high speeds and hard braking.

Have the vehicle inspected by a professional workshop as soon as possible. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia Dealer/Service Partner.

CAUTION

Diesel

If the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is flashing, an error related to fuel injection quantity control has occurred, which may result in loss of engine power, combustion noise and poor emissions.

In this case, have the system checked by a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia Dealer/Service Partner.

Charging system warning light

This indicator light illuminates:

  • As soon as you set the ignition switch or Engine Start/Stop button to the ON position.

  • If the engine is not stopped immediately after the engine oil pressure warning light illuminates, serious engine damage may result.
  • If the warning light remains illuminated while the engine is running, this indicates that there may be serious engine damage or a malfunction. In this case,
    1. Stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so.
    2. Stop the engine and check the engine oil level. If the oil level is low, add engine oil to the proper level.
    3. Restart the engine. If the warning light remains illuminated after the engine is started, stop the engine immediately. In this case, have the vehicle checked by a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia Dealer/Service Partner.
