Injured persons

Seat belts should be used when transporting injured persons. If necessary, obtain additional information from a doctor.

One person per seat belt

Never allow two people (including children) to use one seat belt at the same time. This may increase the risk of serious injury in an accident.

Do not ride in a lying position

To minimize the possibility of injury in an accident and ensure maximum effectiveness of the restraint system, all passengers should sit upright, and while the vehicle is moving, the front and rear seatbacks should be in the upright position. Seat belts will not provide proper protection if a rear-seat occupant is lying down or if the front or rear seatbacks are reclined.

WARNING Driving with the seatback reclined increases the risk of serious or fatal injury in an accident or sudden braking. The protection provided by the restraint system (seat belts and airbags) is significantly reduced when the seatback is reclined. Seat belts must fit snugly against the hips and chest to work properly. The more the seatback is reclined, the greater the chance that the occupant's hips will slide under the lap belt, causing severe internal or neck injuries when the shoulder belt contacts the occupant. The driver and passengers should always sit upright against the seatbacks, with the seatbacks raised, and be properly belted.
